Hello everyone..

Just to let you know a little about me, i'm currently operating a vinyl side business and everything i do is pretty lax. Most of the work i do is favors or extremely small jobs.. i have a regular full time job but i still enjoy getting my hands into the vinyl on occassion.. :-) Any other questions you want to ask i'll gladly answer...

Another question.. I'll be doing two 10x2 signs out of "allumalite" (spelling?) and doing just 2 color lettering (extremely simple).. The signs are going to be one sided.. What's a rough estimate of what you guys would charge (including materials expenses) for the signs? I was wondering what "retail" value of these signs might be.. Thanks a lot for all your help, i appreciate all your time!

HiYa John;People get leary of answering SOME questions when the askee hasn't bothered to complete the required information,ie "signature information"below your name.Other than that,more info on the said sign as to (10)inches or (10)feet??
Also I am confused about the "EXTREMLY EASY" 2 color lettering.
FIRST: you would have to design the wording,seperate colors etc.So you can tell the machine what to do as far as letter heigth,length,color.
SECOND:the machine has to cut it
THIRD:you have to weed and tape
FOURTH:apply
I would price this job as to how much all of this will take.IF you are only worth 1 cent an hour.You ain't gonna make much!On the other hand at the shop rate of $60.00 per hr.
The amount of work takes the same time!!!!
So the real question is:How much is John worth?

The signs are going to be 10'x2' and i'm already familiar with the process of cutting, weeding, and application of the lettering. I've done stuff like this but never this big. I just wanted to get an assessment of what a good signmaker would charge (not me).. heheh thanks!

John, a "good signmaker" would have filled out the signature information...especially after being asked to fill it out!

Maybe you can tell us why we should bother giving you any more information???

John...the people that are reading your post put a price to a sign just about every day they work. They know that pricing a sign involves a lot of variables. How much overhead they have or don't have, the nature of the customer, how busy their shop is and how much experience they have with the techniques that are to be used to complete the project. It really isn't of any benefit to you to know how much the sign may go for in California or Arkansas. In fact it may be misleading and deterimental to your ability to evaluate the value of your own time.

At the end of the project the true measure of the value of the sign to the signmaker is how much time did I put into it and how much is a hour of my time worth. If you believe you are worth minimum wage do the math and ask for that. If you think your time is worth $100 a hour and ask for that.

By the way a signature profile will go along way to geting you more information from the talented signmakers that frequent this site.

And in an attempt to answer John's question in the meantime........

$243.39 each.

The breakdowns are as follows.....

Materials: $170.15
Total Labor and Overhead: $115.18
Total Profits: $202.06
Total Time Spent: 2.25 hours

To get a more accurate idea of what your price should be I suggest the following....

1) Go to http://www.signcraft.com/features.htm and read the article by Jeff Cahill on how to determine what your hourly rate should be.

2) Secondly, I would take a look at some of the pricing software available. Some of them are merchants here and are worth a look. I use EstiMate.
