I was wondering if I should spend the $$ to advertise in the Contractors Blue Book. Everyone can get listed for free but the bids go to the advertisers. In my area there are nine advertisers among the hundreds of listed sign companies.

Think it's worth it? Minimum first year ad $110/month

Anyone on the bullboard advertising in their region?

Amy...the Contractors Blue Book is a waste of money! I have had a listing in it (free) for many years....not one call!
About 75% of my work is for contractors, and none of them uses it!

Contractors have an "old Boy" network for using subcontractors and will call each other when looking for subs! It is a tough group to get into, because quality and service (schedule of delivery is the MOST important part) count more than price!
Since signs are one of the very last things to go onto a job, delivery and installation is critical!!!! (There are big $$ penalties for late completion)

I would very leery of a contractor that picked me out of the Yellow Pages or Blue Book! It probably means one of the following:
1. Is brand new in the biz, and doesn't know what he is doing
2. Is looking for the very cheapest price (new purchasing agent)
3. Is so unsavory that other contractors won't thalk to him
4. He and/or the architech are so screwed up and constantly making changes, that no other sign shop will deal with them
5. Ran out of sign shops because he deosn't pay his invoices

But then again, I was wrong once..... I didn't listen to my own advice!
