I believe the "V" command is there to let you scroll through all your commands on a multiline job. They started putting monitors on the Sprint line, though it does seem like they offered a monitor option for the 4Bs near the end of their production period.
The old console based plotters were fine for one line jobs, but I'd hate to see you spend a lot of money on the monitor. You'd be better off linking to the 4B and use your computer to design. For that, you would need either GA or Omega software and the LMK kit...or you would need one of the Thermazone or Omnicad cards if you want to run it from other sign software. (there were others but I can't remember them now). The LMK card fits neatly in one of the slots. The other cards required that you pop out a couple of chips on the motherboard and replace them with chips with ribbon cables that connected to the add on card. I never liked doing that.
Though we sold our 4B a long time ago, I bet it is still clunking along somewhere.
Good luck,

As long as the 4B is the newer 4B and has the right computer chips in it, the series 90/96 Special Effects card will work in it and a monocrome monitor is all you need.
When our monitor fizzled out, we hooked up a monitor that was used for a Brother Word Processor. That eventually fizzled out also, so we went and bought a used black and white monitor for $30.00
Now the ole 4B is linked to my new system and the main computer replaces all the 4B keyboard commands. We use it now just to contour cut Gerber Edge prints only. So we got rid of the black and white monitor. It will also cut anything Gerber Omega software will send to it, its just too slow compared to our Odyssey plotter which cuts 27 times faster than the 4B cuts in PEN mode!
We will use it till it croaks, then hang it on the wall as a conversation piece.
