i'm doing a "quickie" paper banner for a buddy -- what kind of paint should i use? i have a roll of 36" "butcher" paper (but its not waxed, so its really just white bond). i think i tried using some Deka sign enamel and the stuff just soaked in --- zero "snap". (i'm doing a vinyl banner for the guy in a couple of weeks - he just needed something "right away" and i can't get the banner delivered that quickly).

One Shot poster is what I have always used,as it is thinned with Mineral Spirits like the Lettering enamels. Hope this helps

Dont use tempera with "oil brushes"... They no like! Ronan poster lasts longer in the can on the shelf than Oneshot...
Don't thin the Deka, and it will be OK! Paper banners are not a quality item, it doesn't matter if the paint soaks in, it will never have a gloss to it. Use what you have, then do a proper job on the banner!

i kind of like doing the paper banner-- i was less worried about screwing it up (my time is "almost" free right now... but i gotta PAY for banners if i mess em up). the freedom of the paper allowed me to be a little looser with my design (if he doesn't like it, i'll do another). what i dont like is the "drag" on the brush (if that's the right word). it makes it harder to stay loose when the brush feels like its stuck to the paper.
if i get some 1-shot poster, what brushes do i use? do i need to get a different kind of brush?

One Shot Poster Paint will destroy a good brush in a New York minute! and they don't have a good selection of colors. Tempera paint is water based and will wrinkle the paper but you can thin it down and work Fast & Loose. I use japan colors by Ronan thinned with turpentine - no wrinkle, lots of good colors - but it IS hard on brushes, though kinder and gentler than the Poster stuff.
