This clear doming on decals is great...but I'm wondering how other people are pricing decals with the doming effect applied. I know about time and materials, but has anyone found an acceptable markup for this? It seems it should receive a higher markup as it involves much more labor and materials and results in a very unique product. Any thoughts?

Sorry, I'm talking about the clear doming stuff that you can apply to decals to give a 3D effect. Take a look at www.colorcut.com/deco.html for more info and pictures. Gregory and others carry a similair product. It's great stuff. Easy to do as well(I did it without too much sweat)

I dont know if you have Gregory's latest catalog, but they have a doming pricing example on page 7 where they are showing doming retail pricing at 250% the cost of a regular vinyl decal.
Are you doming printed decals or just cut vinyl?

We charge about $2 each for computer logos about 1 inch square (in quanities of 50).
By the way, you don't have to buy the expensive kit. My cost to make 50 is about $10

There was a trade demo here in Halifax last fall with the dome kits..
Starter kit was around $150.00 and you could do 200-250 pieces with it.
Didn't see much sense in it unless your doing dealership names or fridge magnetics. or pin on buttons...
Maybe you got other ideas for it! Neat product but cost was to much.

Glad to see this post, I have been curious myself about what to charge, and waited for a longer run in order to time myself so I could start figuring it out. I got the "3DV" kind, and so far I have only used the stuff to practice on my own follies. Such as domed big W's with a red No slash through it, during the election The accompanying bottles are a nightmare and hard to clean (for me). So here is why I'm writing: go to a local Beauty Supply House and buy 5" tall/2"diameter color applicator bottles with a pointed applicator. One use, and pitch them. About a buck each, less if on sale. I have made a few licenseplates for good customers, but not charged extra and told them it was a gratitude for their business bonus. They ate it up. And I'm thinking of making a small set of mags and put them on my truck: Outstanding Magnetics.

Ok Shane, Assuming you have an Edge or Roland printer it's easy to make domed decals. Of course you can screen print them as well.
I print, cut and weed my decals like always. Next go to the craft store and get a small decopour kit for $7. The resin goes a long way so don't get a big kit. Mix a small amount up 50/50 like the directions, don't get any air bubbles mixed in, apply it with a glue syringe or squeeze bottle, you can wave a torch over the domes to help degas any small bubbles.
If you want to get real fancy you can buy the dispense tool and mixer syringe kits for $79.
Currently I have an order for 1000 pcs. Guess what my cost is?

So this 'decopour kit' is the same thing that these companies sell for doming printed decals and vinyl? I am going to swing by my local craft store and pick up a kit and try it out. Thanks for the info!

I started doming 2 years ago and domed all the lettering on my truck doors. I ran it thru car washes and waited six months before I started retailing "just to make sure" they would still look new after abuse. So far so good.
I price it at $100 minimum and first hour, and $75 for every hour after. I tell them its similar to taking a pencil and coloring in the letters without going over the lines. It's high-end work.
Like all the custom car/truck freaks, they don't care how much, "Just do it". I don't do alot of it, but I won't let it keep me from my regular shop rate just to produce a unique decal.
I only dome cut vinyl, so I have no pricing for digital printing.
