There aren't many in La-La land I would trust except for Rick James at Sunset Tattoos.
My work was done in Wayne New Jersey bout 10-12 years ago by Carl "Shotsie" Gorman, colors are still like new, got other work by Lyle Tuttle bout thirty years back but its kind of blurry.
When it comes to inks I make sure that the colors are not made by the artist themselves. The reason for this is to insure it will last. Some of the finest inks are made by Superior and to those who create their own from powders have not been proven to last.
Tattooing is artwork that is supposed to last a lifetime and to give your body to someone who wants to save money while taking your hard earned cash, these are one of the things I find out before they stick me.......

Actually, there are a couple more I can recomend in the LA area.....These guys are top of the line...
Bob Roberts....on Melrose
Jack Rudy......in Anaheim
There's a few more good ink slingers in that area...........but Beware..There's a bunch of hacks too !!
All my ink was done by Don Nolan over 25 years ago, and most of it still has good color

The one I got on my left arm is my design. The black work was done by a place in Rantoul,Il, I got it colored in about a year later at Border Line tattoo in Wisconsin.
It is a large Mech. Dragon ripping out of the arm carrying a skull.
The first one I got is going to be covered up as soon as I decided exactly what I want.
I have a back peice in mind, but the wife say NO!!!! LOL

He recently talked me into making up a set of tattoo flash, the artwork they use to make the tatoos from. Eleven sheets with 5 to 10 designs on each, in color and the same on B&W outline sheets (the tat person uses the B&W for a template of sorts...).
Even got one of a top-hatted, winged eyeball playing paintbrush-guitar on a splat background, lifted from the logo I did once for the Winter Brush Down, a letterhead event!
One tattoo guy called my designs "Hendrix stuff" and another sez it's "way new school".
Detailed hippie stuff with bright colors would also describe it.
If you're interested in a set of my flash, contact me then, EH? Or if ya got any new places I could talk to about this, let me know, OK?

As far as tattoos for myself... I doubt it but maybe someday. At this point I just can't decide on what I'd wan't to have forever, and I have a pretty strong aversion to needles (or anything that goes under my skin for that matter!)
Good luck on your inking.

From the sometimes sunny south of Ireland,
I have a few from here & there, some have faded over the milennia, never regretted getting them. Now that I'm working I intend to get some more, but at The Magic Kingdom tattoos that show are not allowed. In the Navy it always amazed me the guys who would immediately use the excuse "I was too drunk to know what I was doing". Baloney! Nobody has been any drunker than I've been, and sometimes while I was gettin' tatted up, and I was well aware of the goings on.
I saw an interesting sign in a tattoo parlor in San Diego. It said "Ever notice - people who have tattoos don't care whether you have them or not?"
And one of the most interesting tats I ever saw was one full back job on a BIG biker, it was The Harley Owners' Prayer (like the Lord's) and there were a whole bunch of misspelled words. I wouldn't want to be the guy who'd get caught for that one, in case any body has the nerve to tell him.

My sister has a Pegasus on her back and right shoulder and also a property of. I guess it all depends on how one feels about themselves and how together they are.
As a former psychology major and observer I always thought that persons coloring themselves with markers were just hiding from their own feelings.
Simular to a person wanting to go on that roller coaster but not having the balls.
As a man, I think tattoos look good on woman but really like woman who need no makeup are healthy looking and have a pierced tongue.

"Life is a great big canvas, throw all the paint on it that you can"
when our kids turn 18 we tattoo them so when know which ones are ours in a crowd!
i get to design most of the work that gets done and devo gets to paints signs for the tattoo shops to pay for em
the eldest daughter got a bird of paradise on her shoulder which has grown over the years to include the castle window and sum of the wall that the bird sits on
the next kid got an R.I.P for his little brother (just like his dads) on his inner right arm so that it crosses his heart then a celtic arm band around to complete the thing
our daughter-in-law got hers across the small of her back and its a nice tribal knott piece
the next kid told us that after due concideration he had decided on his tatt.... he wanted caducius <-cant spell
anyway its the 2 sepents entertwined around the rod... lots of sybolism and a very long story as to why this will suit this kid perfectly
cept this boy also came us with another idea.... he wanted his tatt on his back
now im not mean with money (thats why i never have any) but the size of our son shoulder to shoulder would mean that we would have to seel the house to pay for a full back tatt... it aint happening!!!
we sorta sugested that since his lower legs are the same size as my waist (just kiddin) he sould concider that the BEST place for his ink
gee there are only 4 more kids to go and then u watch the grandkids will start lining up
as far as regreting the work that has been done over the years the only ones that devo has ever wished he'd not done are 2 small leaf designs on his hands, and like he says dont get little tatts... after 25 years they are just gunna be black blobs thay look woeful
regards
gail
ps: katie i'm not keen on the asian dragons either.
ill bring devo's dragon book to portland with me so u can get sum non-oriental dragons from that if u like, i just put on on the bonnet of the ute and it looks cool

Maybe about 27 years ago in my earlier days. I used to tack on people, I had my own little tattoo kit, at that time I used a womans electric shaver (they were smaller) with a popsicle stick strapped with a needle I set up to fit in the blades. At one time I used to go around with this chick who was involded with the drug under world. Ok I was a dope fiend too. (I can laugh about it now)anyway she knew lot of connections, who "money was no problem" but they wanted the best! Not saying I was a dynamite artist, but I knew how to tack with a good drawing, you make a pattern (sort of like signs). Anyway I meet this cat at one of these underground parties who has a tattoo shop, and asks if I would like to help him out, he would supply everything? Since I had no job I thought it sounded good. To make a long story short...this good looking white chick comes in one day, says "can you fix this?" It was a butterfly on her wrist, kind of badly done. I just happen to have one of the tattoo guns that was spitting in a splatter over the lines I had redrawn for the butterfly. Meanwhile the owner and his partner who came to visit him were "real quiet" in the next (I can see you) booth.
I finished the job, and she gave me a tip for doing a great job on refurbishing her wrist.
As she walked out of the shop the dude asks me "did you know who that was??????" I said no, just some chick who wanted her tack fixed. Nah man, that was one of the head dudes of the Hells Angels ole lady! The dude that f*cked up her wrist, was found dead in a river up north!!! I said "ahh sh*t!!" why didn't you say anything? He said I didn't want to make you nervous.
