Is the machine you are trying to reconnect a server? If so, you may have to do like Mike has said and make a crossover cable that is different on each end. Otherwise, you should have a cable that is the same on both ends. This is a 10baseT/100baseT network right?
Did you check the rest of the Cable? maybe the pooch chewed somewhere else and you missed it...
In any case, try redoing the jack one more time: make sure the wires are pushed all the way to the front of the jack, and double check your wire layout. Sometimes you just get a bad crimp.

If you improvised, then you should look at the end where the copper punches down and make sure each one has made contact with the copper, and that each wire is at the end of the connector.
You might also want to confirm that the wires are in the correct order, the white/green and white/blue can look the same.
