What colors would you use on canary yellow? I have a 39 plymouth hotrod to do this week. I laid it out with luster looks purple triangular streaks down the side with imitation gold shadows underneath to "hopefully" give the impression of a natural shadow? Does anyone have any suggestions on a better color than imitation gold to use as the natural shadow?
Still new at this stuff but tryin' hard!!!!
Your advice is greatly appriciated
thanks,
Ryan

Cheryl,
I don't think those colors would "float" with the customer. I had a hard enough time getting him to go with purple.....Had to reasure him that it was a "manly" purple haha.
(Hot pink and teal remind me of the BIG 80's too i dont know about those)
thanks again for the input!

It all depends on what it is the owner would like to achieve with his vehicle. Does he want it to contrast or compliment, does he want his vehicle to look as if it is part of a circus or came out of *Circus Paints?
( *Circus Paints, N.J. creator of customs paint jobs for drag racing cars )
Complimentry color combinations are done to add class to a vehicle. The base color of the vehicle itself I'm sure is bright enough, everything is supposed to come together, wheels, upholstery, etc.. without looking as if it were over-done. Since every color can be made lighter or darker the choice can be left to the artists themselves to portray what the owner wants to achieve.
Persons who do this for a living are the best choices for this kind of work.......

39 plymouth hot rod.. I would do it all in shades of yellow.. I'm not exactly sure what that car looks like (cut me some slack, im a 25 year old in "Import-BigExhaust Tip-ville") but it sounds a bit on the classy side.
I'd probably do the "streaks" in a real pale yellow, something that barely shows up on the canary yellow, then use that imitation gold shadow.

Yeah Im not a huge fan of the import scene.. I dont mind the "clean" imports, with mild body kits and just an all around clean look to them.. but those guys with the HUGE exhaust tips, extreme body kits, fake Type R emblems on their fake "V-Tec" Greddy R/T neons just crack me up.. hahaha.
I'm more into sport trucks than anything, my truck is under construction with some pretty trick plans in the works. Unfortunately work gets in the way of the fun stuff. =)
There's alot of classics here too, since AZ is God's other waiting room. I do get to see alot of them but I'm still playin catch-up in terms of bein able to identify them on the fly.
