Wow I have been having a real hard time beleiving all this crap that "just suddenly" poped up as a shortage.

Now I know I was right, these bast***s are makeing a mockery of folks.
San Jose News yesterday had a article hitting the power companys and the gov. hard, Did you know the power companys decided now would be a great time to shut down 5 plants that produce elet."for spring clean up"
Come on guys !! we can't be that stupid, can we ??

Hi Rodger, I have always enjoy the cost increse of both gas, and cost of living.... it allows me to hike up my prices,,, and NOT A BITCH is heard...there for I stay the same no matter what the GOV. is up to... and as a side perk,, it keeps out the riff and raff,,, from California,,, and the unwanted canucks,,,and there eastern friends....

roger...i got my samples ...thanxs...but whers my kona?....hehehehehe this whole energy problem is all a big ruse....and since big oil and pramacuticles took over washington d.c., these energy and drug companies are getting free rein to do all they want to...to the consumer...knowing that there will be nothing coming outa the govt to stop them....or help the little guy....lets drill for more oil, tear up more land strip mining for coal,put oil wells into the florida gulf...and drop the polution standards so they can build more refineries....damn..they havent cleaned up the messes they made back in the 60's...and they wana create more....yea fun times ahead...stay in hawiia at lest you can live there with out any of these ....youll have kona...no mattrer what...hehehe

Just about all the facts needed to understand the CA electricity crisis are available on the web. Unfortunately much of it is in geekspeek and the press is doing a dismal job of interpreting and presenting a very complicated set of facts in a way that anyone can understand. It doesn't much matter because the public at large will not take the time to understand something this complicated. They just want cheap electricity.

I am a retired electrical engineer, and I spent several hours during the early stages of the energy crisis studying the numbers - where the electricity comes from and where it goes and when and how. When you get past all the tech talk, it is much like a water shortage. The difference is, anybody can drive by the water reservoir and see that it is low. And everybody knows there is no big cross country water pipeline to make up the shortfall. Electricity on the other hand is long columns of dull numbers.

The punch line is - The energy shortage is real. US corporation profit motive is making it worse. Politics at CA statehouse is making it worse. Public attitude is making it worse. I don't see much conservation around here.

Get used to rolling blackouts. They are not going away time soon. Vic G

heres what really gauls me...we(the u.s.) are such a technologically advanced country, way above this kind of "shortsightedness" of energy, water, gasoline, wood, metals, any of the exhaustable resources and by products there of...garbage...that all of a sudden we have to many people in calif, usein way to much electric and drivin to many cars, and usein to much water...where are the great planners of this infrastructure....or did they just quit thinkin ahead.....so now the only way to remedy this sitution is to raise prices and keep raising them.....of all the corperation that make large profits...the utilities and petroleum are at the top of that list..so they squandered their profits all those years and now the promises of "cheaper electric, cheaper water, cheaper fuels" was all a ruse to begin with so they could make more money...and i wish i new what the hell they did with it all these years prior to the problems we face now....most of it went to padding others pockets so they could get this country to the position its in now.....so they can really stick it to the little guy.....we can put a computer into the size of a pen, send men into space, send missions to mars, build a space station, and cant fix a few little problems here.....

Just seems like a benefit to them to cause a shortage then be able to drive up prices ?

Actually, those shut-downs were sheduled a long time ago. They didn't just say one day, "Hey, lets just shut down and do some maintenance so we can make the people of CA suffer."

This shortage was seen coming some time ago. What many may not know is that California had already been "buying" power from the outside for some time. That should have been the first warning sign.

As harsh as this sounds, when politicians get involved in the free market, you can only expect more of the same. California thought it could have its cake and eat it too. Now its paying the price.

How fair would it be to Roger if the California Legislature came to him and told him what price he allowed to sell Rapid Tac, but he is allowed to buy his ingredients and containers freely on the open market. And, as time went buy, the cost of operating the business, the insurance, the ingredients, ect...continued to rise. And, whenever Roger went to the Legislature to ask for a price increase, they said "NO, and by the way, you can't increase the size of your production facility either." All the while, the demand for Rapid Tac continued to grow.

Roger is gonna be in a pickle before long, isn't he? And, before long, there would be shortages of Rapid Tac all throughout the land.

Gonna be a lot of poorly applied vinyl sign jobs pop'n up.

Give me a break... I'll believe energy shortange when Las Vegas turns off 25% of their "glittering lights". Until then... it's a manufactured ploy to soak the consumer, a la "laissez faire" capitalism.
Take a look at that satellite photo of the earth at night.. see all those lights? Energy shortage my granmas butter churn!

California excersizes the most conservation of any other state. The price for electricity in CA is controlled by the State Legislature. Production is at capacity yet the demand is still growing. Energy production and energy purchasing is overseen by the State Legislature. The population of California has almost doubled over the last 10+ years. California hasn't built any new energy producing plants in nearly 25 years.

2 + 2 still equals 4. And, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to add up the cause of California's problems.

While conservation is very important, California can not conserve itself out of this problem. It is going to have to either produce more energy for itself, or the people of California is gonna have to get used to paying out-of-state plants higher rates.

Geez, it looks more like 105 !
Sure would be good if the Ca. PUC also mandated the power people to give descriptions of "resons for non operational status"

Then I may be able to understand.

Looks like the demand(even during PEAK hours)
is way down from prior years !!

Oh, those evil Canadians!

Its been reported (I'd give you the link for my source, but I might be criticized for doing so) that a Canadian power company cut off electricity to California for non-payment.

Those bad, bad greedy people. How dare they insist on being paid for services rendered. Don't they put the children at risk?! Oh the suffering it'll cause!

(Note: For those of you with no sense of irony or humor, this post is nothing more than a sarcastic poke that the poor whiny folks who insist on others solving their problems so that they won't have to do it themselves. It is not to be considered a reflection of other Californians who are genuinely making an effort to solve the problems there.........That is all.....You may return to your lives now...)
