Every once in a while we get a call from someone wanting to buy the fonts we used on the headline on our Main Street CD or the headline on our Golden Era Studios logo. I tell them it is "Eberhart2b"....that's a 2B pencil sketched on newsprint or velum, then scanned and digitized! I guess people assume that everything is made with a computer font now. That design went through probably 8 or 9 minor revisions and tweaks before I finally put the stamp of approval on it. That much time may be more time than an average designer spends on an average sign for an average customer, but I can't see any shortcuts that I missed now that it is over. Often, labors of love show in the end!

Sometimes designers get in such a hurry that they forget about the satisfaction they can get by actually taking the extra time to do something the old way. If done properly, it ends up with a look that no one else can get with a commercial font. I think this harkens back to the original Letterheads spirit which started the movement. While is is easy to get in a rut, it can be worth the effort to challenge yourself once in a while.
