Here's the scenario....

A long-time client wants another pair of magnetic signs. He liked the ones I did for him 8 years ago, and he's ready to do something similar, but more up to date.

The sizes are....
2> 28.5" x 12.5" (for the doors)
1> 1=22.5" x 10" (for the tailgate)

Here is the layout.......

The layout took 1.5 hours to create using Corel 9 and EyeCandy 4000. Another 10 minutes to set up in Gerber Omega. 15 minutes to print and cut. 5 minutes to weed and mask. And, 15 minutes to apply to a sheet of magnetic material and hand-cut to shape.

What would you charge and/or what could you get for it?

My magnetics start off at $65 a pair. For a knock out one like that,(I would have to paint it), I would be lucky to get $200. I try and talk my customers out of magnetics. They rot yer paint, blow off, and get stolen.
My neighbor though INSISTED on magnetics for his truck. He's an exterminator, and he says that restaraunts don't want him to advertise when he's there.(go figgure)

Glenn.....I wouldn't do a pair of simple magnetics for less than 85.00 a pair....but your designs always blow me away...so I can assume you got more. My guess would be around the 300. range.

The sign gives the same benefit to the customer wether printed or painted. The only difference with magnetics, is they give the customer MORE flexibility.

Both doors and tailgate like that = $375.00

The client is so pleased, he plans on bringing me one of his trucks to "letter-up" when he gets back from Aruba (sigh).

Beautiful work Glenn. But your's allways are.
How did you print 12.5" on the edge, when it will only print 10.8" If you tilled it, does it match up like it should?
I can't find anyone around here that would want a beautiful sign like that, or would want to pay anything for it, more than prob. $100.00.

nice work glen...and the price is where it should be....but did you give em old paint fabulouse 5/50 magnetic warrenty? 5 minutes or 50 mph, whichever comes 1st.....hahahahahaha....ive never made a single replacement for free......

John,
Whenever I design an Edge job like that, I try to keep in mind if a splice is going to be involved. In Quick Plot, I move the horizontal cut line where I think would be the best place to put the splice. As you can see by this layout, there are a lot of places I could hide a splice. When I finish the "How To" this weekend, I'll take a closeup of how I dealt with it.

BTW, the word "Pete's" is a font called "Smoothy" and is available from SignDNA. All of their fonts are worth writing a check out for.
