Anyone ever read the children's book, "The Signpainter's Assistant"? LynnDee checked it out from the library yesterday. It's a cute little story which, to me, demonstrates the importance if signs to society and shows respect for the profession. In the illustrations, there are a couple of nice layouts too. Read it to your kids or just read it for yourself. Hey, I wish all of our customers could.

A really neat book and my son's favorite as young was
"Spindle's Picnic"
great artwork and adventure with a hedgehog in overalls! Teaches kindness and resourcefulness.
and "Little Rabbit Foo Foo "rates up there too!

Those sound like good ones, Deb.

Michael...where can I get that book?

Other good ones were "Ten Pennies for Candy"
and the Little Golden Books. One of those was The Little Golden Book: "The Lord is my Shepherd" which was the entire 23rd Psalm. My little girl, who was about three at the time, could quote it verbatim.

My all time favorite, though, was "What is a Whispery Secret?".

Kids books are fantastic sources for great illustrations. Check out the Read with me bible, and NIV story bible for children. Illustrated by Dennis Jones. You won't believe the work in there. Basically of a cartoony nature, but the quality is unsurpassed. It's really great, and kids love it. You can pick it up at WalMart and other places. Below is a scan of the front cover with some of the great art on it.

I bought two copies on Ebay (in pretty worn out shape) of a book called:
Mr. Pine's Mixed-Up Signs"
Kinda cute.

John that Bible book looks like the illustrations are wonderful!

As a kid I was inspired to draw from the books my Mother gave me. Mostly British, very old.
My favourite illustrators were Beatrix Potter, Jesse Wilcox Smith and Watty Piper.
I still refer to these illustrators when doing children's rooms.
I just love them!
Here's some mural doors I did recently with Beatrix Potter art:
