What is the best material to use for a spraymask. The customer wants a stencil made so he can paint his own trailer/s.

I have made them from magnetic sheet before, for spraying on truck doors (for a customer,not me) but this man's trailer is aluminum. I would rather put vinyl on it but he's obviously trying to save money and do it himself. I could make him a pounce pattern, couldn't I? That might be interesting. I told him that on most typestyles, the centers of his O's A's and such would be missing. He said that would be OK as long as you could still tell what the letter was........
Anyway, I showed him that "Stencil Bold" font would work.
I'd still rather do it in vinyl.

Why can't folks realize that you don't spend money to buy a sign. You buy a sign to MAKE money.

My signs make me money! Shheesh

Wayne...I used to make up stencils for an aicraft refinishing company until they bought their own cutter. They INSISTED on using 3 mil calendered vinyl. It was cheaper than paint mask and since it was thinner thet found it produced less of an edge on the painted lettering. Just a thought.

I don't know were your living but most suppliers have a low tack masking product to do roller or brush application.
Gerber or Scotchcal or Avery all sell this masking...
Great for flat surfaces
But if you are looking at curves or sphere shapes then liquid grip mask is the way to go.
Spray it or Roll or even brush and let it stand and dry!

tell the dummy.....PAINT DONT STICK TO ALUMINUM....it needs a zinc chromate primer 1st. if he dont belife you go out and get a can of cheap spray enamel(thats what hes gona use) spray some on his trailer, let dry, get some of that green 3m scouring pad....rub it across the paint ..it will flake off......so now hell know...that vinyl will stick to alum and paint dont. then give him a bill for your time!
wayne...just a question, do we have all the dummies and cheap a**s in the panhandle?.......
