Hey carpenter/sign guys... Need some good advice on a power miter cutoff saw..I want a good one....not a "deal one" We need to remodel the kitchen...then the saw will come to rest in the shop where it will be called on once in a while for finish moldings etc.
I'll have to get the model # from our shop in Oregon. Let ya know Mon.

The DeWalt DW705 12" would get my vote. I have had one for two years and it works great. The one I had when I got this was a Delta. When you get it take off the blade that comes with it and get a good one.

Michael, I would look into a Hitachi, compound miter with the sliding cut (forwards and backwards). Its in the 400.00 range, but allows for much wider angle cuts up to 12 inches, and compound cuts. It chops down and pulls like a radial arm saw. Very versitile.....

So then after it's remodled are we gonna do some guilding on it ... then we can do mine. I'm remodel/building mine too. Can't help with tools, I leave that to my father-in-law, this guy has a wood shop at his house that Norm Abrahams (sp?) would drool over. Mine will be the third kitchen we've completly re-built this year (both my wifes brothers then mine) ... ripping out walls and all new cabinets built from scratch. I'm still working on my designs as my destruction starts in about two weeks (after we finish brother 2) Anybody have any freaky design ideas? As long as I'm buidling everything from scratch I want something different.(carving, shaping, some gold in there would be nice)
sorry to not answer your question with a question of my own ... a couple kitchen mini-meets might be fun?

The compound sliding saws ARE slick. I have a standard model Makita that is accurate enough, but it seems like so many times I need to cut a piece just beyond the maximum cut. Another feature of some that is REALLY slick are the ones with the laser blade guide. It casts a red line from a laser light at the cutting point. I've always found it tricky to find the exact spot where the blade cuts, trying to hold up the blade guard up while lowering the blade to the pencil mark.
