Is anyone using OMEGA with an AMD CPU? We're looking at a new computer and I don't know if will make a difference if we use Pentium III or AMD. I know some of you have had problems on some computers but not others...was the CPU the same in both cases?

Dianne..I am no guru by any means, but I believe that the AMD processors test out as being somewhat faster than comparable Intel processors. One thing I have seen mentioned is that your video card can have a major effect on how a particular graphics program will function speedwise. I have an ATI card in my computer and Corel seems sluggish to me. In checking the Corel newsgroups it turns out that Corel doesn't particularly like ATI.

Just something ELSE to think about! LOL

I was told by one of the techies at Aries Graphics (Sign Wizard) that, even though the clock speed of the AMD CPU is faster, the math coprocessor is not as fast/powerful as the Pentium. I took his word for it and bought one with a Pentium 3.

Yes, as Dave says, the video RAM makes a big difference.
This one has an 8mg video card but I would like to have a faster one.

How about that new Pentium 4 commercial? COOOOL

We are using Omega on a computer with an AMD Athlon processor, 1gig. The software runs fine. We were able to buy a faster computer with more features for the same money by going with the AMD as opposed to a pentium computer. Add as much RAM as you can afford.
We just added an additional 256M for $109.
I can remember when it cost $40 for one Meg.
Wow!!

Diane...the problem with Omega....is Omega...not the computer. Gerber will hopefully get this program straightened out soon and then we can all "get back to work". My program crashed three times yesterday and I e-mailed tech support once with the "details". I can't remember GA 6.x ever crashing...once. It's not the processor, it's not the ram, it's not even the weather...it's Omega.
But, just for the sake of argument, what if Omega ran on Intel and didn't run on AMD...it would still be Omega because every other software package runs fine on either. Anyway you slice this one...it's Omega.

Diane,

I'm running Omega on a P-3/600, AMD K6-3/450, AMD Athlon 550 and Athlon 850. I've not had any problems. Absolutely no crashes at all on any of the systems.

My local computer guru told me a couple weeks ago that Pentiums were more stable. Personally, I can't tell a difference.

Just my 2 cents.

I've run Omega & Flexi on Amd's & Pent III's
I haven't had any problems with Omega on either machine, but Flexi runs lots better on the P-III. I run a 866 P-III with 128mb Ram 41 Gig HD with a ATI Maxx 64mb Video Card.

Thanks everyone. Installed OMEGA this weekend, and the very first thing we tried didn't work. Red circle on top of black box, put overprint on the red...it disappears! We had this problem with overprint on white in GA, so we were anxious to see it fixed in OMEGA. Not only isn't it fixed, but now other colours have the same disease...sigh!

Diane,

Its not the software, its the operator. Call me and I'll walk you through it.
