I need to remove some painted graphics from a 98 Aerostar. The paint cant have been on for more than 3 years. What would you suggest I do to remove it. There in not alot of it... 5 words done in a 1/4" thick font. About 2" high.
This will be the first time I will be doing this. Any and all help will be appreciated.

Joe, I might get jumped all over for replying to this...but this is what I have used and been very successful.
Easy Off Oven Cleaner! It has never damaged the original truck paint and removes the painted letters very well. Always wear a mask...and leave the spray on for at least 15 minutes before cleaning off. You may have to do it a couple of times to get all the paint. Then use a degreaser cleaner dilouted by water and clean the easy off film left behind.

Removing painted graphics, tape stripes or washing a dirty van, its all the same to me at $60. an hour. I may be in a different business than others here, it is my job to install not remove. I always suggest they take their project to a body shop or detailer who has the tools, energy and time........
I have also used Easy Off oven cleaner to remove painted graphics. I coat the surface with a fairly heavy coat let it sit 10 min or so and then I take a SOFT grey squeegee and scrape as much off as I can. It makes it a little easier to remove excess oven cleaner. Once I scrape as much as I can I give it one more light coat and remove the rest with a soft cloth. Depending on how old and what color the background is you may want to compound the area to even out any fading. In addition to the mask the Brenda suggested (a must) I would also put some safety glasses on, I got a big glop in my eye one time OUCH I thought I was gonna do some permanaent damage . My eye was screwed up for three days.

I have used Mr. Muscle with good success, But you have to be careful not to get it on anything but the painted surface. In My opinion, the best way is rubbing compound. If it is a truck painted in emron or allgrip, you can use bonami and laquer thinner paste for a small job like that, then compound out the shadowing. Bill
