God bless America, land of free, home of the blame;

Let's see if I understand the state of personal responsibility in the America of the 1990s.

If a woman burns her thighs on the hot coffee she was holding in her lap while driving, she blames the restaurant.

If your teen-age son kills himself, you blame the rock 'n' roll musician he liked.

If you smoke three packs a day for 40 years and die of lung cancer your family blames the tobacco company.

If your daughter gets pregnant by the football captain you blame the school for poor sex education.

If your neighbor crashes into a tree while driving home drunk, you blame the bartender.

If your cousin gets AIDS because the needle he used to shoot heroin was dirty, you blame the government for not providing clean ones.

If your grandchildren are brats without manners, you blame television.

And, if your friend is shot by a deranged madman, you blame the gun manufacturer.

God bless America, land of the free, home of the blame.

Aren't we glad we live in America, we can do what ever we want and give blame to someone else.

ONLY IN AMERICA

Yeah, it's true. Unfortunately, it's human nature to try to dump the blame off on someone or something else. We are sinners in need of a savior. Thank God for His gift of salvation through Jesus Christ!

Ya finally got it, its all true...
No prayers in school but yet the Inauguration of the presidency had a long prayer both in the beginning and at the end. Even though their was a diversity of persons from different walks of life and from different countries with different religous beliefs the prayer was to the Lord Jesus Christ. Our money is printed 'in god we trust' etc.etc...

But actually the saying goes ' America, home of the rich and the brave, the braver you get the richer you get....

I have the game Doom on my computer and my favorite movie is Natural Born Killers. I smoke herb, love street racing, loud Rock and Roll and young fillies with short skirts or tight jeans.

Does this make me a bad person?

I don't believe in law suits, taxes or laying the blame on another, I do however believe in myself for either stupidity or intelligence.

God has blessed America, by the looks of it, it's simply all the ingrates, selfish and Godless people who sound off just like this post atarted (I don't mean you Jim), but the anonymous writer.
America is still the best to live in the whole world.
The heart of man is desparately wicked and deceitful above all things no matter where you go. Go live somewhere else if you don't like it here, that should solve your problem.
Be a shiner not a whiner!

Now it seems to me that we in Canada have one third more the land mass then U.S.A. more resources in forest and minerals and plenty of fresh water..
A good balance of people in our nation. As we all smile and give the time of day to anyone that asks for it!
Our freedom of speech is greater and we don't try to shoot our priministers...
All joking aside the problem is that with to much freedom there gives to much (I have the right!)
God give us the right to live and he or she tells us the time to die!!!
Remember this site is Canadian Born and lives forever...

Sorry, I can't buy that wicked man crap.
The human has "the ability" to SURVIVE,this means ;
sometimes a person has to defend themselves(this is why we have the ability to be agressive)
Sometimes a person has to feed their family in hard times(this is why we can be selfish)
Sometimes having a stock pile is your only hedge against future pearils(sp)(this is why we can show greed)

The human species must have these abilities,or we would not have survived this long.

The problem seems to be that these days a growing number of people have either never been taught or just gave into the negative side of things.
I taught my kids like I was shown at an early age (be WELL balenced) let your logic control those strong instincts..Live by the old Golden Rule whenever possible !!
Not saying to lay down and give it up, just saying we can all have these instincts to protect us when necc., but keep them tucked away till they are needed.
When the children are taught to respect it should be "both sides",respect themselves as well as others.
That makes a more responsible human of them !!

Just blabin away here, sorry.

Those who make up for the lack of accountability in others will succeed, those who do not make themselves responsible will ultimately fail.

Take up the slack for someone else who couldnt handle the situation and you make yourself look better.

Bite the bullet and take the risk..

Example: do you think anyone views McDonald's to be anything less than a burger factory just because some stupid women couldnt keep tabs on her coffee?
They paid her off and saved face, now people might have a slighty higher opinion of that company. They could have gone to court and dragged it out for years but what does that accomplish? Nothing, except giving them a bad public image which they dont need.

Sometimes you just need to take the responsibility even if you were in the right, if for no other reason than to just end the arguement. This act alone will make people think you are a bigger person for it.

If you arent part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

Dear Roger,

You don't have to buy that crap, it comes built in to you, matter of fact, you make my point when you say you can be agressive, selfish and greedy. None of these human characteristics are God pleasing. Oh I make mistakes and I lose my cool, but I also try to be as generous, giving and helpful as I possibly can.
I'm a sinner saved by grace but when I let the natural man take control I do exactlylike any other person whether they are "saved or not." The only difference is that I will ask my "Higher Power" to forgive me at the end of the day..."forgive me my debts as I forgive my debtors."

If anyone would do even the SLIGHTEST bit of research on the story, the woman who sued McDonald's for the hot coffee incident would find there is a LOT MORE to the story than the sound byte used by late night talk show comediens.
But.. hey... don't let me spoil your fun of creating fabrications based on insufficient information. After all.. that's the american way.
For an illuminating read on your fast food franchises, I suggest "Fast Food Nation" by Eric Schlosser ... but remember... the truth can be hard to swallow.

To Mike Pipes,
Aside from the validity of the McDonald's incident, do you really believe it is better to settle and pay off the litigant when they are wrong. Now it may be wise from a monetary and public image standpoint but not for the sake of giving in just to look better.
I am sure you wouldn't if you were on the receiving end of a wrongful complaint.
Again, assuming the complaintant is in the wrong.

http://thereporter.com/Specials/CS97/juricek.html

In Albuquerque, N.M., in February of 1992, a woman sued McDonald's after she spilled a cup of their coffee in her lap. In court the jury found her 20 percent at fault, yet awarded her $200,000 in compensatory damages and $2.7 million in punitive damages.

The "assignment of blame" is the stock & trade of lawyers and judges...a lot of whom were former lawyers. Their basic training is to make someone else responsible...for negligence...stupidity...carelessness, or whatever. They do this on a regular basis, and are paid handsomly for their skills in this area. The legal team assembled for the defence of one O.J. Simpson was a great example of Justice American Style.

And now you marvel at where you have arrived?? Even if there is nobody to blame for a misfortune that may befall you, get a lawyer, and they will FIND an individual, company, group, or policy that caused or contributed to your misfortune. And, what's more, they'll find a way to milk that party for every penny they can wring from their grasp.

This is the lifestyle that you've chosen, either consciously, or by default.

Blame, is a sign of fear and ignorance.
Blame, is laziness and a lack of
responsibility.
Blame, is an excuse to use anyone for
anything that helps one to cheat.
Blame, is natural, it can be found in the scriptures of many religions.
Sometimes Blame can be fun in an inteligent
way.
But most of all...We were all born happy,
who do you blame for that.
Thats my dime!
And when the sun shines, grow corn. ( Jack )

David, it depends on the circumstances.

If I were a multi-billion doller per year high visibility high profile company like Mc Donald's Corporation, I probably would try to settle out of court for the sole purpose of not looking bad. I know it sounds goofy but ya know what? Mc Donald's gives away more $$$ in free food per year to upset customers than that woman won in her settlement, just to shut them up and get them out of their hair. As an ex-manager of a McDonald's restaurant (not that Im proud of it but it was a good experience) I saw first hand the amount of money that leaves the store in foods given away to please scammin' customers. They'd rather get them out of the store than confront them and create a big issue.

Now if someone came at me or my business with some false claim, I would probably fight it because I have no public image to protect and money is more of an issue. I have nothing to lose from one person tryin to make me look like a jerk.

My previous comments werent to be taken as a "bend over and take it" approach, but more as a "know how to pick your battles" approach.
You may be able to win the fight, that doesnt mean you actually succeded at anything.
I'll relate it to what's goin on in the office Im workin in now during the day.. a couple of the guys fight over what position the blinds should be in.. open, closed.. up or down.. whatever.. they fight and fight and fight.. one of them always comes out on top but what did he actually win? - the title of bein some kinda anal retentive moron whose only real issue in life is the position of window coverings!

OK it's not the same thing as a big money settlement but it goes along with my original idea that I failed to mention - know how to pick your battles.
