A while back..there was a post about whats best to oil your brushes.....I have become accustomed to using transmission fluid..where-upon I was repromanded by Ole Paint....tranny fluid has a lot of nasty stuff in it.. So....I re-read the post and decided to switch to mineral oil.. So convinced was I .......that I decided to drain the tranny fluid outa my vintage 85 El Camino,just to spare it any injury.I filled the tranmission with mineral oil.. I ll be dipped in !@#$.... It dont go no mo!... Im gonna sue OP ...Im gonna own that Volvo!!! MmmmmHmmmmm.
Just in case anyone is still looking for a good brush oil, I posted a while ago about lemon oil, it is sold as furniture polish. One brand is Old English. Have been using it since 1948 with no problems. Cleans out easily and does not get hard like neatsfoot oil. (Can be bought in hardware stores).

Maybe the secret is AUTOMATIC tranny oil.. I've been using that for decades... lovely color...and my brushes are soaking in it now. LE

Edna, automatic tranny fluid has additives that clean you tranny, with brush hairs, it slowly eats the hair, or break it down.
Use it when theres nothing else around.
Mineral works well but brings mice & insets, so keep your kit closed.
This Saphire oil i've been work for short periods, but hardens over time, so I'll give it a 5 thumbs down.
Things just arent what they used to be, high quality, long lasting, and cancer causing.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....micheal....if mineral oil in your tranny doesnt work the front pump is broken...ill send bill for mechanical diagnostics....hahahahahha..any typr of oil will work in an automatic tranny..because all it is, is a hydrylic pump. any heavy viscosoty fluides will work from vegtable oil to motor oils....the reason you put tranny fluid the pink stuff, is 1st to distinguish it from motor oils if there is a leak(hence the pink color)2ndly it contains caustic detergent additives not found in any other oils, reason being is to keep all the small holes in the valve body clean and clear of dirt and contaminates. also it contains an "anti-foaming agent, this keeps the oil from turning into a foam when it constantly compressed and heated by the rotation of the pumps....i have put vegetable oil in hydrylic systems....when we ran outa hyd. fluid.....it will work but foams up real quick....as for putin my hands in it, no thanks, spray carb cleaner on your hands some time, some of the same chemicals are in tranny fluid.....3 in 1 oil is great, 10w NON-DETERGENT, all your really doin is keeping the hairs plyable and keeping the oxygen from drying the paintin the heel of the brush.....

What's wrong with baby oil??? I don't mind getting my hands in it, it has lanolin which is good for the brush hairs and smells good... Ron...I never noticed you had five thumbs!!!

Will someone here try Rapid Remover on an "old" brush,and report back ? We use them for our paint brushes around the factory(yes brushes for painting walls and wood etc.) My workers say they have never seen anything clean and preserve so well, but hey we're not talkin Picasso here. Roger

Still got a good supply of Kendall 50wt drain oil from when I used to bang wheels against Randy LaJoies father and Jerry Nadue Sr. at Danbury Ct. Racearena in the 70's... Keeps the brushes in good working order., in fact I turn the brushes upside down once a week to conform to Nadue's car on the race track back then... In all seriousness, straight 30 or 50 wt motor oil has worked for me for the past 40 years....
