No carpet, just a ceramic tile floor in my shop but every time I walk over and touch the plotter.........ZZZZZZZZZZAAAAAAAAAAAAP.

Sounds like meat frying, sizzling, popping loud enough to be heard way across the room. Kinda smarts too. Didn't take but a couple of times to learn to touch it with the back of my hand first. Ouch

Am I full o' Kriptonite or what!

Something doesn't sound right! Shouldn't be building a static charge walking on ceramic tile floor!
Is your plotter properly grounded?
Touch someting that is grounded first, then the plotter...still get zapped?

Maybe if you drag a chain behind you to ground yourself to prevent a static charge build up

Steel underwear with a 1/4" cable down to your shoes. Make sure you wear cleats or taps on your soles..............that'll do it.

Yea Si, I know what you mean. They use ceramics for insulators. Maybe that's just it. The ceramic is keeping me from being grounded for sure. Yes the plotter is properly grounded and I wired the whole shop myself and tested every receptacle for ground and polarity with a circuit tester.

It's just static generated from just moving around the room I guess.

My truck door is doing the same thing. Step out of the truck and grab the door....Pow!

I'll be glad when Spring comes.

is there any family history of spontaneous human combustion? hahahahah
seriously are you sure its not static buildup from the vinyl moving back and forth in the cutter. mine does this from time to time especially on long runs.

I had that problem at home. Very dry air. I got to the point where I would always grab my weeding tweezers or something metal to touch something grounded to discharge myself . No pain that way because the discomfort comes from the discharge at the point of the arc.

I was tempted to put a little grounded metal plate at the computer station to discharge myself. Higher humidity will definatly help. But I've never knocked out a piece of equipment yet because of static.

Rubbing my butt across the fabric seat in my car or truck as I get out does the same thing. ZAPPPPP as soon as I touch the metal door.
