Can anyone advise the best way to put dimples (to resemble a golfball) on a 5 ft. fiberglass ball that will be on top of a pole about 10 ft. in the air? Would like to create the appearance of depth. Just beginning in all of this and any advise is much appreciated.

Get a real golf ball and place it under a bright light in a room with low light. This will cause the dimples to cast shadows on themselves and have highlights.Dont look at the whole ball,rather concentrate on a single dimple.Notice which side has a shadow and where the highlight is.As your eye moves around the ball,positions of these characteristics will change according to where the light source is.On your painting you can predetermine where the light source is..make sure it stays the same as you paint simulated dimples around the ball.You can create a higher contrast than you actually see,with paints...for added punch.Amplify what you see with your choice of palette. This is one of the fun parts!
Cover it with vinyl "dry" it will have a lot of bumps ! Ok,just kiddin again. Roger

After you've decided that a chainsaw isn't gettin it...try some really subtle light blue paint to paint your crescents (dimples.) Even though you may be tempted to follow the last two posts advice...hehehe...the first reply is the best...study your subject!
