I am about to start a job for a local fiberglass jeep body construction company. I have to do their logo on the glass of the storefront in the burrrrr cold. I was thinkin of heating it with the heat gun before applying, but i dont know if this will stay warm enough. Its been about 20-30 degrees here lately. Any other suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

Ps. Logo is in vinyl (high performance)

Hi Ryan,

Something that has worked fairly well for me, if I have to letter or install vinyl on the inside of a window, is to tape pink insulation foam to the outside of the window in the area to be lettered. It usually will allow the glass to hold enough heat from the inside of the building to get your work done.

Use a lot of caution using a heat gun on large windows. I know of a couple of instances where someone has cracked the glass by heating it unevenly.

Hi Ryan. If at all possible, talk them into doing this install on the INSIDE surface of the glass, in reverse. Your application will go a whole lot easier, and there's much less chance of exterior vandalism to contend with. If the windows are tinted however, you'll probably have to do the outside installation. Check with some of Roger's past posts re: using Rapid Tac II, as they've demonstrated wet applications on frozen glass using this stuff.

I'd seriously AVOID using a heat gun on cold glass, unless you're prepared to replace a plate glass window. The localized expansion caused by heating one area can and will break the glass.

Hey Ryan, I have to apply some stickers to windows myself, I wish it WAS 20-30 degrees here, then I could get it done! She's been under zero for a few days and looks like it will be here for a spell. I like it (outdoor rinks will be really nice for hockey) when it does get "Hot" like 20-30, I'll be lickin and stickin like Popeye's fried Chicken!

Wow,

I was just wondering how to apply vinyl to a metal door. The customer said he would take it off while I apply the name. I thought there could be an easier way so I didn't have to fit into their schedule. It is 20 miles from here. My rapid tac is in the garage in a gallon, so I am hoping the winter didn't alter the ingredients, because we have been below freezing here too. I will look for that post on applying on cold.
