I am driving thru the panhandle of Oklahoma and Texas, headed to Santa Fe as I cruise thru Hooker, Oklahoma. Sign on the barn outside of town reads: Hooker Hardware. Not bad, I think. Original and opportunistic. The real 220 came when I saw the latest 4H sign: "Hooker's Hogs Open Judges Eyes!" That did it. I was on the serious sign beat thru Hooker. Then came the best one,"Hooker Horneytoads Rule!" I left town I was so humbled by the originality of panhandle-itus!
...There are only so many of these places left. Anyone been to Tightwad, Missouri lately?

Rural Ontario has some odd names as well. Punkeydoodle Corners, and Skunk's Misery are two hamlets that i've always thought were quite funny.

For those of you who can’t find Intercourse, it’s just East of “Bird in Hand” and south of “Blue Ball.” All of this located in the middle of Amish and Mennonite areas of Lancaster County, PA.

I've seen a bunch living in the mid south, Toadsuck, Shoot and Cut, Shake Rag etc. but the best one isn't really the name of the towns but the duplicity. Traveling US 78 through Alabama you pass through Guin........about two miles later you pass through Gu-Win. I bet there is a great story behind that one.

Hey George,
I had a hat a few years ago that one of our salesmen got me from Toad Suck, Arkansas.He said the name came from people going across the river from a dry county to a wet county to suck up some suds!
How about Boring, Oregon; Hellhole, Idaho; Chicken Head, Florida; Spread Eagle, Wisconsin; Conception Junction, Missouri; Hardup, Utah; Virgin, Utah; Hornytown, North Carolina; Rudeville, New Jersey; Hooker, California; Dulls Corner, Maryland;Bowlegs, Oklahoma; Beersville, Pennsylvania;

In Kentucky I once camped at Big Bone Lick State Park, and bought supplies at the Beaver Lick Trading Post. I have photos to prove it.

A few years ago a friend of mine and I were on our way home from pheasant hunting when his cell phone rang (we were already a couple of hours late getting home)and it was his wife wanting to know where he was and when he would be home. He said well honey, we are in Tokio (Sounds just like Tokyo as in Japan) and will be home as soon as we can. The funny part is that she had never heard of Tokio Washington and got just a bit upset that here husband had taken off to Tokyo Japan.

Slapout, Taintmuch, Burnout... all in Alabama I think. Ducktown, Ga just down the street. On the way to Birmingham you pass through Eastaboga. Never saw Boga or Westaboga. And there's Yonah Valley north of here a ways...always tickles me to see all the signs like Yonah Burger ( pronounced the way we ask each other around here "Do you want a Burger?") Yonah Used Car, Yonah Fire Station, Yonah Elementary School..etc.

I live in Ball Ground, Georgia... pop. 930

Well now, some of the places right here in harlan county are, goosebottom, crankscreek,shortown, officialhollow, fourmile,yancey,tanyardhill, and lots of others. Seems like every ten foot of highway has a different name here. The town I live in even has a strange type name. Ages, Ky.
My dad always said , "I aint seen you in Ages, and you know why? Cause you don't live there." hee hee.
