I have a customer who has an HDU sign with damage that was made by a company that is no longer in business. A few golfball size chunks have been broken out. This is a 8' x 3' single sided sign. What's the best method to use in repairing this sign??

I haven't a clue, since we don't sell HDU signage.

Thanks, ahead of time!

Hi Tim,

I would probably mix us some Durham's Rock Hard wood putty and shove in the holes. If they are bigger, you might have to get some expanding spray insulation and squirt in there first.

Tim, I haven't tried it yet, but have decided that if I need to repair a large hole in HDU I wills core a round hole out in the damaged piece, and friction fit a round core into the hole to fit as closely as I can lubed with a light coat of HDU
glue. If you let in protrude slightly and dry, you should be able to shave or sand off the extra and use conventional methods of filler and paint to redo. Many will say bondo, and it will probably work, but it will shrink a lot in heavy use areas and swell like hell when exposed to the suns heat. I would use only minimal bondo. Bronzeo

Tim,

Both the above fixes will work well. Make sure that any filler is catalized so it will dry correctly and will not shrink. If you have any other questions regarding repairs, call me @ 800 338 4030.

Actually Jack's method is the better one. More positive, but make SURE you use HDU glue. It's a specific and expands. Feel free to call me too on the toll free............since I taught Joe everything he knows and he's forgotten a bunch of it already. :^)
