I have a couple questions about e-mail.

A couple weeks ago, in response to a BB post, I received two rather vulgar e-mails with different e-mail addresses. I suspect that they were from the same person.

Then yesterday, I received an e-mail from a person asking about a signmaterials question. I "replied" to it and 12 hours later it came back as undeliverable.

Question: Is there a way to trace the correct e-mail address?

Next, I received a vulgar e-mail from a person who had been booted from here for "stalking." Well, it appears that I have somehow garnered his attention.

Question: Is there a way to block e-mail from undesirable sources?

Hey, Glenn.......I'm sure someone else will give you the answer, but I know my son has done it to a nuber of undesireables. He'll be home in a few hours and I'll have him post how to do it if no one answers you in the meantime. You're talking about that a$$#@!% Terrapin, I suspect. Man what a jerk.

Thanks Pierre!

And, you were right....it was our favorite stalker. The man needs professional help. Its a pity to see someone so angry inside.

Like Pierre says you can block senders in Outlook Express, as for tracing anonymous e-mail I think that's much harder, there are more sites offering anonymous services than promoting ways to trace. Maybe someone with the right computer(behind the scenes) knowledge could trace it to a server, and you draw your own conclusions...

I guess it's as frustrating as being cut up in traffic, its only the poeple around you in the car that hear your frustration and not the person that caused it!

While I am probably one of your woolly jumpered liberal opponents....living in a socialist haven! where we are looked after from cradle to grave, (or it used to be) I
respect your beliefs and values although feel like we have overdosed here on the political debates I even woke up the other night having left the TV on, to CBS's live presidential debate from Missouri.

I don't understand the need for anyone to send anonymous vulgar e-mails, you can say more or less what you want here, I think the important thing is that it doesn't deteriorate into personal attack, poeples political, religious and sexual preferences, are a small part of what we all have in common, at Letterhead meets we dont introduce ourselves as Glenn Taylor republican...or Henry the sheep loving liberal!. But unforunately this is sometimes a harder way to communicate, and narrows views or prejudices. I hope it doesn't put you off in your quest to help the republican movement or anything else you feel passionately about

I've chosen to get back on track with this topic.

Glenn, I know this isn't the answers of all answers, however it's an immediate and free fix.

Have you tried Eremove? It's awesome.

Glenn,

You can actually see the route the email took to get to your server, but to see this info varies depending which email program you use.

In Outlook Express, you select the email, click "View" and then "Source".

At the top of the window it will list a bunch of info about that email, including an email ID# which you need to file a complaint with the spammer's ISP. There will be a server listed (most likely the first on the list) which IS the person's ISP whom you can report the email to.

Now, sometimes these servers are used just to bounce an email around and the person may not actually be a customer of theirs. Othertimes the ISP just takes the complaint and doesnt do anything about it.

The problem with blocking email is that it works using particular mail server identification to kill the email, which means you lose out on legitimate email that may originate/bounce through the same server.

If you run an online biz (such as I do) something like that could hurt you.

I just keep my Delete key handy.
