Dianne, using the tags is the answer, but I wonder if that was enough info for you. Because the other critical element in getting that to work is a basic knowlege of how to get an image up on the web to be referenced. You have to have access to a web page somewhere that you can ftp an image to, then specify an accurate address for the image. This stumped me for a good while. Since it would probably take at least 30 minutes to type out a clear explanation of this, for now I'll just invite you to email me if you could use further input.

So - does that mean the only way to make photos or other renderings appear in messages, one must have a up & running website? Altavista affiliate 1stup.com's affiliate Netdrive allows individuals 100mb of disk space for free. Gonna try there but might not work (might need password to access). What else should we try? We, as in anybody else whose tryin' to figure this out.

Thanks for that post, and Diane, thanks for asking the question. That was very timely advice as my 'puter tutor is in Boise, and I too am learning the whys and hows with this computer stuff.

Donna posted a couple of excellant step by steps on this very subject. You'll find them under Tips & Tricks in our Archive Forum. Here's how to find it.

Scroll down to the bottom of this page. In the right bottom corner, you should see a dropdown box that allows you to move between the various Letterville Forums. You'll see Tips & Tricks at the bottom of the list under Archives. Simply highlight it and click on go.

To Bill and anyone else unclear about how to display images - Yes, you have to get them up to some kind of a web-accessible place first. Those 'free' web space offers will do just fine. Then you have to be able to use some program to transfer the files up there. This is called FTP.

Im including a reprint of an explanation I had sent to Diane privately. Maybe it will clear some things up. Here goes...

It looks like you may have had someone create that page for you. If transfering files to a remote server is foreign to you, you've got some more learning in store. You will need an FTP 'file transfer protocol' tool. If you don't have one already, here's a link to a whole slew of FTP utilities that can easily transfer files to you web space on erol's server. http://winfiles.cnet.com/apps/98/ftp.html .

Once you've managed to send the image to your site, check it by typing in a "/" followed by the name of the image. It should look something like this; http://users.erols.com/summitsigns/sellersville_billboard.jpg. Using FTP will replace any spaces with underscores and replacing any punctuation like ampersands with all sorts of wild codes, so keep the image names simple to avoid confusion. The best way I know to add an image to the bullboard is, after confirming that the right image shows up in your browser, simply scroll over the complete address, hit 'control/c' to copy it, then paste it 'control/v' into the space between 'img' and '/img', with no spaces. That will work every time.

After what seems like an eternity, I finally got it to work. Saving & printing workshops 1&2 on subject of creating & uploading picture files was a big help. I found a storage site at: www.idrive.com. They give you 50mb of space. Plenty for a couple of .gif's. Also, couldn't find anything in Terms of License/agreement about them confiscating your files as their own. So looks like a good place for now.
