With a little time on my hands right now, i redid the graphics on my truck. I wanted a yellow to red faded vinyl for part of the graphic. I scuffed up the vinyl, and sprayed the two colors with spray paint. I outlined it in black, and am concerned about the unpainted vinyl shrinking more than the painted. Any experiences with this? It looks really cool, and have had lots of compliments. How do you guys do this? Vinyl, paint type, clear coat? Hopefully it will lead to other simmilar jobs, and want to make sure its done right. Thanks for any replies!
If it's a 2mil premium film, memory should be near zero. Should NOT be a problem at all.

I've done it two ways, (both seem to work for me). HP vinyl, Krylon spray "shake and shoot" , or "Createx Auto -Air" with "Bond-all" (also from Createx). I'm not plugging Createx or Krylon here, (both of 'em should move into LETTERVILLE as merchants! ).
Either way, I use 'Krylon' Crystal-clear to seal 'em.(3 coats, very light, let each coat tack up between). Timing is everything, try to weed it too soon....BIG MESS! Weed it too late, the cut lines "weld" themselves together. Practice on scrap vinyl 'til you get the hang of it.

THe paint and clearcoat remain pretty flexible so as long as it's 2mil premium material you shouldnt have any problems with it shrinking.
I'm also going to be experimenting with regular automotive paints, most likely two-part urethanes, and even screenprinting inks! Don't know when I'm going to be doing that though.

You can also mix frog juice with your 1 shot. Only downside to that is the juice is clear and will turn colors transparent. Although for fades and pictorials you may want that. I used to spray screen inks all the time reverse on lexan sheets for display purposes. Use vinyl or poly acrylic ink mixed with poly thinner. Tough as nails, but toxic as hell. Don't use unless you are set up with a good system. I was young and trusted my bosses judjment on equipment until I developed breathing problems and ended up in hospital for a bit. Now I'm sensitized to the stuff and can't wear some printed shirts or hang around screen shops for long. I can't stress enough to protect your lungs. No job is worth it.

nazdar system 2 vinyl works quite well if thinned with slow thinner and used in a ventilated area. it works on banners, vinyl decals and a number of other substrates. it does not need clear coat, but if thinned enough for airbrush, it may be a little flat if you don't clear it Bill
