If you want to make a handy gadget for vehicle lettering, just use some spray adhesive and glue some scraps of magnetic sheeting to the back of a yardstick. It seems to work especially good on the new vehicles that have the body creases and moldings at all different angles. Just slap the yardstick on the door/side (whatever) and back off and eyeball what looks right for the lettering. I also use if as a guide for applying vinyl without making marks on the door.

Very good tip. I have several yardsticks with attachments. One of the best is an aluminum Popular Mechanics standard with a clear 1" plastic corner protecter attached with 2-sided tape. Not real pretty to look at, but it's good finger protection.
