Ya know, I had these CNC cut aluminiun composite signs. 6 of them, about 24 by 82. They read River Road Lounge. The signs were cut with a big outline and a 1/2 in pinline. Six big shapes. I was going to do them in vinyl, but being the job was so simple, I cut a paint mask and painted them. And when I was done, no big mess of backing paper, weeded vinyl and transfer tape. Tomorrow I'm gonna hit the letters with a bit of simple one color highlighting. Yes, it might take longer, but I spend less money by using paint. And there's no waste.

Vinyl has really gone up. This would have been two color vinyl, about 12 30" yards or a three color digital print/laminated and cut. I'm just tired of the trash vinyl makes.

There is three times as much waste with vinyl. We pay for the waste material, pay to dispose of it, and yet someone asked us to believe that time is money and it goes quicker. I sure like the smell of enamel better than the smell of vinyl too/

I get more satisfaction from doing and seeing a painted sign. Walking down a street, I'll stop and look at a painted sign. An old or a new one. Vinyl I usually pass by. I use paint mask sometimes, but there is waste. Just less expensive than better vinyl, I guess.
