I don't do Credit Cards, just cash or check. But it seems that one of my customers, Freightliner Northwest, will no longer be issuing checks. Now they will be doing direct back deposit. I ain't doing it. I had another company get into that a while back because "It would be quicker". Not! I tried it for a while, but got off it. Back to them sending me a check. Because of where I am at in my career, I will never do direct deposit with my customers.

I have had a couple customers also switch to direct deposit, and a few that will only do credit cards. I do find that the Direct Deposits are made alot quicker than when paid by mail! However, I have adjusted my rates for the hassles.
PS...Are you going to make it to Streator this year?

Naw, cause I wanna go to the Onaway Speedway in Onaway, MI this May. The are having Semi Truck Race/Pulls. It's Semi trucks! Smokin, burning, loud pipes and engines, I just gotta go to that. Plus I get to see the grandkids etc in Cadillac. Granny Mudflap coming to visit.

If it's a matter of losing a customer or doing credit cards, I go with PayPal. I don't do enough credit card business to warrant an account so I use PayPal. Yes there is a fee but it's a per use fee, not too bad, and better than losing a customer.
BTW Alicia, if you are going through the UP you'd better stop for a visit or I will not forgive you.

Get a square card reader. Like pay pal, no charge unless you use it. Comes in extremely handy. I would think direct deposit would do away with :the check is cut, it's on the comptrollers desk waiting to be signed" excuse. ( I heard that one way too many times from car dealers. )

I use paypal, add the processing fee to the bill and have the funds instantly- I have a Paypal debit card attached to that account, all the transactions are automatically recorded and reports for my tax lady are a click away- dont ever want to go back to waiting for checks or people forgetting to pay and putting my cash flow in a bind.

I use Square and deposits are made in my account the next day. There is a percentage fee, but only if I use their service. Now, lots of government offices use credit cards. It does make it more convenient than billing and waiting. I just add a little to the invoice to cover the cost of Square.

Ahhh, maybe the Square is what I need to get.

And just like Warren Buffett,I don't have a Smart Phone, that's another subject. Gonna have to get some other type of device for the Smart card thing.

Alicia, I've never been big on technology but the smart phone has made my life so much easier. The camera comes in extremely handy as does access to the internet. Need to match some intricate pinstripng on a car at a body shop. Take a picture, use the mirror feature and viola, there it is, no more walking back and forth endlessly. When I do a bike event, I'm often asked to paint all kinds of cartoon characters and other crap. I just look it up on the internet. I also bring a wireless printer with me so I can print an image out. Being able to take a credit card is another huge plus. I keep my reader in my kit. Smartphones are wonderful.

Alicia, Square allows you to call in a credit card number if you can't use the reader.
A Smart phone is a lifesaver for me. I'm not a tech person by any means, but the features that I use on my phone have saved me countless hours of research and trips back and forth...like George said.
I have a Samsung 8. My biggest problem is remembering where I left it.

Raymond, I don't have trouble remembering where I left my phone. I have trouble remembering to take it with me.

I have a freelance account that does direct deposit. It works out fabulously for both us...

Please start another thread on that subject Alicia.
I'd love to hear your reasoning for not having/using a smartphone.
(I've been using them for about 10 years and can't imagine having to revert back to a basic flip phone. But I am 73 years old and I dislike downgrading to old technology!!! )

Square is great if you have a good cell phone signal. In my bldg (metal roof, plastered walls) I have no signal. Cannot use card unless I go outside and then it takes several minutes for my phone to pick the signal back up. Would love to be able to use Square Reader. Did not know you could call the transaction in. Thanks for that info. Also can you give the info on how to call it in? Thanks

If you have WiFi in your building you can connect your phone or tablet to the internet and use square even without a phone signal.

Shirley, square has an offline mode in the app. Make sure it's set to offline & it stores the transaction until you have service then it runs it. It's been a lifesafer for some of the vendor shows I do. I can also login to the site & email invoices with a "pay" button so I never see the card & customers pay from their desk.

I have customers who do the direct deposit. I also take credit cards, debit cards, PayPal, checks, chickens and turnip greens. But cash is always welcome.
