Can anyone suggest any sort of device for straining a small amount of paint?

Seems like such a waste to use the paper cone style strainer for a few ounces of paint. Plus they cost nearly a buck each around here.

I have some fine mesh brass screen. Got it as scrap off some job site 30 years ago.
I cut a small piece off , formed it to fit container top, then wash it with mineral spirits and use it again.

Google Brass Wire Mesh

Works for me

Ive actually used a piece of screen door screen before. But the Brass mesh is much finer

Nothing better or less expensive than old panty hose that are going to be tossed out and replaced. Have your wife or girlfriend save these for you, and you can cut then to any particular size you'll need. They can also be used as a disguise, if you're planning a hold-up or to scare the hell out of someone when they wake up. ( PS: Don't get the wife's or the girlfriend's mixed up )

and an old tea strainer... but maybe tea isn't so common in USA? [Wink]

Ya know, my Dad used to also use old women's stocking. I think I will continue the tradition. Now where's that gasoline I use for paint thinner? The leaded kind, of course!

Nylon stockings work great. Especially the larger sizes. I kept a ziplock bag full of cut squares in my kit.

not to start reviving old threads, but, this little technique is worth sharing. Saw it on the Woodenboat.com forum.
(that is one of the places I have migrated to is the boating world).
put the paper filter in the paint vs the paint into the filter. If you are frugal, a quick rinse in the thinner bucket
and it will live to serve another day.

John, that's one of those slick ideas I slap myself for not thinking of it.

Thanks. My lone functioning neuron would never have come up with this!
