I had a customer email me a bad truck lettering job. I told him,,"No" That he could get the work done at any sign shop because I only do custom work. I quess I got a bit, not jealous, but,,,,,well I was watching David A Smith's work. He the fancy guy from England. I thought to myself "See stupid, you need to get back to beautiful." Kind of a form of retirement for me. Yes I said the "R" word. But that's the plan. I want to grow up or grow old to be a real sign artist, "Au Grande" starting today with that last email.

The "R" word is not a bad word Alicia. It represents a place where one wishes to be.
Some, I believe, like you, wish to continue producing beautiful work but on your own terms and at your own pace and most importantly at your own price. All very important.
Some, like me, might prefer to pursue other options. Like never having to wear winter clothing again. Very important also.
But still have an active social life. Help with volunteering (I know that sounds like an "Old Farts" comment, but it IS actually fun for Shirl and I since we are younger than many of the Mexican ancianos that we assist.)
I was always a computer generated graphics person and after 9 years of "R", I have had the time to become even better at doing stuff with CorelDraw, haven't made a penny, but I have the personal satisfaction of knowing that I am getting better at it.

As of New Year's Day 2017 I am starting to collect my pension. But I actually retired when I was twenty four. That is when I began doing what I loved on my terms. I never want to stop!
I encourage everyone to say NO more to the work that does not make you happy when you are doing it. Life is far to short to not have fun every day.

Hi Dave- you don't know me but I have followed your posts from Mexico- we are talking about going to Puerto Morelos with some young friends who have gone there a couple times. Sound nice and calm (they are not resort people either and speak Spanish). Just looked up your location and it is not too far away. Gene

Hi Gene...Puerto Morelos is a nice area, more laid back than either Cancun or Playa but just an easy 30 minute drive to either of those places. I'm sure you'll enjoy the area.

Generally I think if you're a happy person before you retire...you will be a happy person after you retire...and visa versa...people just don't change that much...of course there are exceptions to any rule.
