Being Canadian, I won't be voting...BUT...I did make a few bucks on the last two presidential elections, when wagering with American friends.
I also have a few bucks on the line this time around and I believe the American people will help me win again! LOL
Whoever wins, I am convinced that there will be initial "kneejerk" responses around the world and after a couple of months everything will settle down to normal. "Same ole, same ole" stuff.
Just my non-political opinion.

Dale...I completely agree with the first part of your comment....BUT I would paraphrase it to read....
"Not voting IS a wrong choice"
Shirley and I vote in all of our elections. Sometimes we agree and sometimes we don't, but at least we vote.
I truly hate it when I see voting results where less than half of eligible voters have taken the time to exercise their right to help decide who will control their fate in the future.
Over the years, I have listened to many people bitching about the "current" government. When asked how they voted, many said they didn't bother.
My reply to them has always been..."Then quit bitching!!"
To all of my American friends...No matter who you support...Get out and vote in November and don't just sit back and complain after the fact.

Well Shelia I dont remember exactly how it was worded...but it had to do with how the presidential race has degraded to the point that even a candidate's penis size has become a part of the debate...and in a hypothetical...if the presidency was determined by such a measure... then it would be conceivable that Hillary could inch out The Donald for the win.

Posted by Sheila Ferrell (Member # 3741) on :
Before this thread disappears into the rubbish can of outer-web-space - I would like to add a few observations ... in no certain order . . .
~ this thread was intended to be silly fun to poke fun at 'poli-ticks' - ie; the blood-suckers we know as politicians and their dogs: government and the people.
I dare say the concept of the blood suckers controlling our world is definitely something we all agree on
~ Not everyone is capable of pure objectivity . . .
~ Dale, your most recent post on this thread was the most well-put thing I've ever read by you . . .
~ Si, your list was priceless.
~ This is the first time since I came to this town around 2003 that one of my topics went hot! lol
~Coplen, I misread what you said so I've come back to edit this: just to clarify - I absolutely did not post the topic to see whether Barb monitors this site. That never occured to me. I honestly thought the 'orange' music video was hilarious and simply wanted to share a guenuine laugh relative to the hype that we are deluged with by media on,the daily. I couldn't care less what anyone's real political views are here in the 'ville, or if mine are accepted or not. We're all of us adults who have been around for over half a century and should be able to laugh off the whole political debauched machinery that is our gov'ment... Meanwhile, I monitored it myself and twice encouraged objectivity. And in truth, the huge majority of comments here have not plummeted to the depths of any concern, imo.
~ Know this- whoever has been in office, whoever is in office, whoever will be in office - it is all, according to many infallible, already fullfilled prophecies, incrementally - step-by-step headed to fulfill more prophecies . . . We are not as far from these things as we once were. We are closer than we may know. But go thou and see what that meaneth ...
~ oh, REALLY? Religion?
~ Opinions are like onions, they add a lot of flavour, but they can make you cry . . . (Sheila Ferrell)
~ Barb, ka-sera-sera
(edited for spelling bc even random observations & onions should be spelt korecktly)

. . . I'm not sure if I agree with that statement Rusty . . .
Take Siamese twins for example. They see both sides of everything . . .
But seriously folks, I think there are specific situations a person can observe with complete objectivity.
I do agree that there is probably no person who can see every single thing in their life objectively because of innumerable factors all pointing to,emotion . . . and because Mr.Spock was a fig-newton of someone's imagination . . .
Objectively speaking, I can see where using the word 'pure' might be inaccurate whereas a word like 'complete' would'a been better . . .
I'm just sayin' . . . I can see both sides of that . . .
Dang Opie - yer cool. I don't take ya seriously at all, ever . . . BAM!
Buddy. You set that up now . . . (lol) You KNOW I like to pick on ya!
Posted by Rusty Bradley (Member # 6938) on :
To whatever degree "objectivity" exists...one should try to view things as objectively as possible...even though...objectively speaking...it is near impossible to do so.
Posted by old paint (Member # 549) on :
An objective perspective is one that is not influenced by emotions, opinions, or personal feelings - it is a perspective based in fact, in things quantifiable and measurable. A subjective perspective is one open to greater interpretation based on personal feeling, emotion, aesthetics, etc. there now that should clear up some of the b.s.)))) good example is people watching the monkeys at th zoo......AND THE MONKEYS WATCHING THE PEOPLE AT THE ZOO))))
Posted by Rusty Bradley (Member # 6938) on :

Rusty, I think you were a little hard on Sheila; Obama may not be a Hitler per se, but he'd like to be the dictator of the world.
Regardless of where he was born, he is NOT a true American. He wasn't raised or mentored here; he wasn't educated (early-on)or indoctrinated here. He has no concept of the American Spirit and really does not like this country at all.
In just seven and a half years, he has done more damage to this country than all the other Presidents combined. Our national debt under him, is more than all other Presidents put together. Every statistic and statement that comes out of his mouth or one of the White House press goons, is a lie....like"The 400 million cash we sent to Iran was just a coincidence..." Bull----!!! It was a ranson; everybody knows it. Glabal warming, carbon credits....all bogus. Muslims aren't terrorists....BS! And he can read off the teleprompter, one lie after another and smile!
How about figures....they rave about how good the job market is; 5% unemployment. What they fail to report is the other 15 - 17% of people that are still out of work, can't find a job after their benefits run out, and are no longer counted. Ask them.....
He has raised taxes on business to the point where we have the highest business tax rate in the world. Why do businesses leave? Guess.....
He has totally destroyed the medical industry. Ask anyone who has to be on Obamacare. Waits, delays, massive paperwork, poor service, and that's just the beginning. Doctors have retired early, emergency rooms are cluttered with illegals awaiting FREE treatment, paperwork is multi-times more than ever; and rates on everything are going up at an alarming rate. Oh yeah, and there's 22 new different taxes imbedded in Obamacare.
He's decimated our military....cut our troop strength down to before Korea War levels (low!), decommissioned several of our carriers, neutered NASA (turned it into a muslim outreach), fired or early-retired over a hundred top officers and opened the service to gays and transgenders.
Since this may be my last post on here, I could go on for paragraphs. But please just open your eyes. This is absolutely the worst excuse for a "leader" we could have ever imagined. Our standing with other nations is at rock bottom; no one respects us anymore. "Wars" are fought from DC, with soldiers having to call and request permission to fire back, when attacked.
A whole lifetime of trying to bring the races together in harmony by Dr. Martin Luther King has been wiped out. Obama's doing everything in his power to inflame tensions between black & white, cops, muslims and Christians....all parts of Saul Alynski's book on how to take over a country by setting the people against each other.
Ok, there;'s lots more; but I'll stop here. Just remember, I didn't start this......
I just want youall to know that Hillary is, and will be as radical as Obama, or moreso. She has been described as the third term of Obama, and studied communism extensively in college. Look up her agenda; see what she has in store for us....First, the second amendment...guns..gone. Second...1st amendment....free speech...gone. More taxes.....on and on.
America is at the biggest crossroad in any of our lives. I doubt this country will be able to withstand another onslaught like the last seven years, and it will take generations to recover, if it ever does. I'm worried about my kids, my grandkids and my great-grandkids. One of the old proverbs the elders used to recite, was "We always tried to leave the country better than it was when we got here." It certainly isn't now; and if Hillary gets elected, I fear for their future, because it most certainly won't be.

# 09 Only in America... could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a black Attorney General and roughly 20% of the federal workforce is black while only 14% of the population is black, 40+% of all federal entitlements goes to black Americans - 3X the rate that go to whites, 5X the rate that go to Hispanic
# 08 Only in America... could they have had the two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner (the head of the Treasury Department) and Charles Rangel (who once ran the Ways and Means Committee), BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.
# 07 Only in America... can they have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash.
# 06 Only in America... would they make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege, while they discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just 'magically' become American citizens. (probably should be number one)
# 05 Only in America ... could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country's Constitution be called EXTREMISTS
# 04 Only in America ... could you need to present a driver's license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.
# 03 Only in America ... could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. Oil company (Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).
# 02 Only in America... could you collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a Trillion dollars more than it has per year - for total spending of $7 Million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn't have nearly enough money.
# 01 Only in America.... could the rich people - who pay 86% of all income taxes - be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who don't pay any income taxes at all.

What happened to this place? A few years back I was talking with a friend who is a house painter. We were talking about work related forums, his most popular forum would belittle people who asked questions experienced members thought were trivial and they just were mean to noobies of the profession. While I told him how great this forum was. I told him if I had a question, with an hour or two I would have an answer.
So this is what it's come down to, bitching about politics. How sorry is that!
Posted by Sheila Ferrell (Member # 3741) on :
Well . . . several things to address ...
1. I already explained why I posted the 'orange' topic.
2. Rusty, & especially OP - interesting that you all posted very many completely unobjective comments throughout this thread to which I simply replied: ' so much for 'objectivity' I wonder why you posted a photo of Hitler OP?
Now, suddenly - my comment to the Hitler photo is unnacceptable & the two guys who were having the most fun here are scolding me and want the whole thread removed? hmmm. Maybe your just really noticing the seriousness in some of your own comments here ...?
3. Are you reading any of my comments here other than the ones you reply diectly to? I don't mind having the whole thread removed or locked. I already invited Barb to do so -
meanwhile ...
4.Free speech still abounds.
5.Regarding 'off-topic' posts - I've never had a problem with any off-topic post - if it's an off-topic subject-thread which I disagree with, or otherwise have no meaningful input, I simply ignore it. I never lamblast anyone about it. Pretty easy.
(Dave)Thompson, if you dislike the content of an entire thread - why would you bother to read or even comment on it? Your reply here isn't a problem, but may best be served by creating a whole new topic on the subject of topics not related to signs.
Since I assume sign-biz is only 99.9% of our world and we don't live in a total vacuum, then other subjects besides signs would naturally be shared sometimes.
I mean, there's even a little gremlin for off-topic posts so I assume they aren't barred.
6. OP - I am not going to remove the first post. Illogical. It would completely skew the original content and context of every following reply. (PS: I'm paintin', I'm paintin')
(edited for spelling - the only thing I'm anal about)

Sheila...off topic subjects that might be of interest or fun should be welcome...but everyone knows that religion and politics are near impossible to discuss without contention and hard feelings...so why do it...this forum is based on the commonality of sign making...religion and political subject matter are some of my favorite topics...as a young man I even studied for the ministry...but I am well aware of how easily buttons can be pushed in discussing religion and politics...it's just a poor decision to introduce those subjects into this forum.

The link you put up is to a 30 day free trial. It still works after several months because of your "serial number that works"...it's just not right to tell people that it's a free program. Any program is free if you can find a serial number that works and you don't pay for.
I'm really done with this. If you believe free is the same thing as what you did, godspeed to you.

I had a great day on the golf course yesterday. 3 over for the round. Even par with two holes to go then my driver let me down. It's been about 20 years since I shot my best round of one under par so it felt pretty good to have a near par round. I decided to post this in this topic because a lot of liberals think that golf is an elitist sport, but it really is a great teacher of integrity, honesty, and good sportsmanship which is the polar opposite of many other sports where cheating abounds and it isn't a foul unless you get caught. Wasn't biting my lip Joe, just working on signs and playing some golf.

Posted by Don Hulsey (Member # 128) on :
Hey Dave... I am hoping to break par tomorrow. Since we are playing a best ball scramble, and the other 3 guys are pretty good, I think we might have a chance. (not a chance of winning, but a chance of getting below par). Golf does help teach all those things, but I think some people tend to cheat at it too. The last time we played this scramble we came in 8 under, and finished 25th. The team that won turned in a 24 under.
Posted by David Harding (Member # 108) on :
I have two brothers in law who are excellent golfers, one has organized a number of tournaments and is almost at pro level. About a dozen years ago, those two, my brother and I made a foursome at a family reunion at the Ridges Golf Club in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.
We played best ball and there is plenty of water to deal with when teeing off at 13. All of us tried to drive across the lake. All failed. I sliced so badly, my ball was still on terra firma along the side of the lake, whereas the others were in terrapin firma at the bottom with the fishes. That was one case where being a bad golfer helped. We finally used my shot! My brother usually placed himself between me and the pin because he said that was the safest place to be. He was correct.
I have figured out all I need is a 7 iron, sand wedge and putter. Nothing else works. On a 400 yard hole, I can get to the green in three swipes with the 7 iron, whereas my wood shots will be in the woods and by the time I get out of there, I'll be way behind where I would have been with the 7 iron, even if I do manage to acquire a mulligan and encounter a math malfunction or two on the scorecard.

David, Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin is in my neighborhood.
I have never golfed there, but a very good client of mine started out selling memberships for the place before there was ever a golf ball on the property. The water is all man-made and those lakes are just ponds of water with vinyl liners.
I know this is way off topic... but so is everything else!
Posted by David Harding (Member # 108) on :
My stepmother Auril and her first husband John built that course. My parents had gotten close to them when my Mom and Dad would stay at their campground on trips to Wisconsin to visit relatives. A while after my Mom and then John died, my Dad married Auril. They live in the house next door to the course.
My Dad is 93 and my stepmom is 100. They still go camping, although not in tents anymore.
A couple winters ago, the house burned down one cold 4°F morning. My Dad was cooking breakfast when he saw smoke pouring up the basement stairs. He told me, "I didn't know what to save, so I grabbed my favorite antique, my 98 year old wife, and we headed out the door!" They rebuilt it and moved back in just over a year ago.
Posted by David Harding (Member # 108) on :
The place, as I understand it, was a gravel pit when John bought the land right after WWII and started building the course. He bought old buildings and highway bridges and moved them to the course, planted thousands of trees, built custom homes around the perimeter, put in a racetrack and campground, restaurant, etc.
When we visit, we canoe and ride a pontoon boat around the lakes and islands there, hike in the adjoining woods, and get together with our many Wisconsin and Illinois based cousins.
I just looked your location up on Google maps. We usually go to Rib Mountain when we're picking up incoming family at Central Wisconsin Airport. Small world.

For those who care.. There is no need to go into orbit over the software mentioned above. There is no worry about pirated titles..
Adobe published a link to get their CS2 suit or the individual cs2 titles for just a download. That included all the necessary serial numbers one could want.
It was done because they shut down their authentication servers for CS2 and didn't want the hassle of legal owners going rogue over a non working yet paid for product.
Fully legal. One can still get the products if one has an account with adobe. One can make an account if they wish.

quote:Completely untrue, Curtis. Don't you have google on your computer
And you are mistaken..
I don't need access to google to know what Adobe did. Tens of thousands of people know full well what happened and why. One can google all day long and see what adobe did. Any thought that someone is pirating CS2 is dead wrong.
Turn it anyway you wish. But the fact remains that Adobe released cs2 for download along with the serial numbers and is still allowing anyone with an account to download it.

I know it's true also. I was given an iMac and I thought I would take it home to do some designing at home instead of being at the shop. I thought I would load my second allowable copy of Illustrator onto the computer, but then remembered that the CC versions need to have the computer hooked up to the internet to continue running. I don't have internet at home. So I went to my old software cabinet and found my old PC versions of Illustrator, then I found all my CS2 literature and instruction manual but no disc. I heard about the download and Curtis is right. I went to the Adobe site and there was the download and a serial number to activate it.
