Hi,

I have to letter 5 pick-up mounted snow plows. I was wondering if anyone else has ever had to letter something like this? He wants the lettering on the concave (inside where the snow gets pushed). What would you suggest, paint or vinyl? I told him that the lettering will get worn off because of the ice crystals in the snow are abrasive. He said he wants to try it anyway.

Thanks for your input.

prep the blade ,...put the vinyl on it,...take his money,...when it fails ,...repeat previous process

edited to add,...I used to wonder the same thing about lettering retaining walls at the race tracks, knowing that as soon as I would letter them some race car driver was going to drive their car into it and make it necessary to repaint them,....

Tim is right.

I have a customer here that I letter plows for every spring. Sometimes I don't even have to remove any old vinyl. I put his logo on them in 1 color, and keep it as high as I can to make it last as long as possible. We don't normally get a LOT of snow here, but they still never last through an entire winter.

Forgot to mention...Years ago I lettered them with 1-shot when it was still decent paint. I still had to touch them up every spring, and sometimes re-letter completely. The vinyl is much less expensive for the customer.

and use CALENDERED VINYL.....SHINE RITE/BRITELINE.....
i do a lot of tree service trucks....and it holds up better then high performance.

Fisher, Boss, Western, SnoWay all use various vinyl on their blades. Even Fisher’s Limited Edition New England Patriots plows were done the same way, although if you have the "Certificate of Authenticity" Fisher will sell you a replacement decal.
Place the decals higher and towards the middle, but longevity will not be more than a couple of years.
