How's Everyone
I don't do much gold leaf, but the other days I was doing some striping on a Harley, it's the 08 Rootbeer and black color.. anyway I taped off the stripe layed on the size, waited for it to tack up..12 hours, slow size.... layed the gold leaf, it layed perfectly.. then I clear coated it with base clear waited another 12 hours, gave it some water sanding to know down the edge.. and the I was going to tape the stripe so I tried a small part first,,, but the clear came off the leaf when I pulled back the fineline tape...I guess I should'nt have taped it and pulled the line freehand... the question is
Can I just fix those spots or should I clear and then start again and do the section in one piece...

Thanks for any input.

Is it just a small part that needs fixin? If it is, just redo, you'll sleep better at night.

Yea that was what I was thinking Alicia... just as well to do the whole thing.

When I do stuff like that I cut a paint mask with another line outside the leaf line. Put down an egg size. Mask. Pull the gold leaf stripe. Apply the size, let it tack a bit pull the second line. Leaf when ready.
Lightly wipe with damp cotton ball to clean off any stray leaf bits and the egg size. Then apply clear and pull rest of the mask.
I don't do much bike work though so don't knwo if it would work on a tank.

If the clear came up with tape, I would redo it all now cause it's all eventually going to come up. I never had any luck patching gold anyway, you can almost always see it. A lot of clears don't stick to gold leaf well without being buried ( the whole piece cleared ). Some people apply size over the gold before clearing.

Egg white mixed with a half cup of water , brush on liberally let dry.
I think it was in LeBlancs book. I like it instead of talc (or rubbing a potato which I only tried once).
