I found relating to his book difficult. Dan seems unfamiliar with rural communities where looking like a big successful business works to the detriment as it appears too city slick. Folks in rural areas want to deal with someone they can relate to, like the kid next door.

Thanks for the feedback Rick.
I don't think it's a matter of looking like a 'big' successful business, just a matter of looking like a 'successful business' - period. That strategy works for Main Street as well as big cities. Some of our most successful campaigns were for for very local, small businesses looking to gain a foothold in their very small communities.
The book is meant to simply give any business a leg up on their competitors by consistently applying a brand on all their touch points. I don't think that's slick; I just think that's what every smart business should be thinking about as they attempt to make an impact in their community - whether big or small.
