Camp Washington Cincinati 1934

The video shows store fronts and signs of the day.
Of course the American Sign Museum is located there and that's how I stumbled on this. Enjoy!

P.S.---- I, also, noticed a lot of Guidos, walking around, in that neighborhood.

Cool video! That was a sign painter's heyday period.

Neat video, Dave!

As a long-time Cincinnati native, there's a lot here that rings a bell. Unfortunately, with a lot of the video being so close-up, many or the buildings are unidentifiable. The one bank building shown, is still there; though it's now a chili restaurant. Much of that area of town is a very old section; and a good bit of it looks much like this today.

The Sign Museum, is not in Camp Washington, but in another area called Norwood. It is housed in the main building of what was once the Camaro/Firebird assembly plant of General Motors. Since I haven't lived in Cincy for a good many years, and don't get back too often, I haven't been to the new museum yet. But based on what I saw at the old one, and the fact that they have made some major upgrades and additions, I'd not hesitate to strongly recommend it.

Look at most any video of any large city, and you can see a rampant use of signs everywhere. The "sign police" that many cities have today, would be laying on the ground, kicking and screaming and pulling their hair out, with this kind of "onslaught" today.

A heads-up for the September 2015 International Letterhead Meet to be held at the American Sign Museum - this event is replacing the previously announced Vegas meet. Put it on your calendars...

Wow, that was a nice trip into the past. I sometimes think going back into time, about 1900, with my sign painting talents and going to a sign shop to find employment there. And if they didn't give me a job, I'd open up my own sign shop. What a life that would have been.

THE SIGN MUSEUM IS A RECREATION OF HOW IT USED TO BE ON MAIN St. A block long of 2 story buildings on both sides of the street, full size stores. All hand lettering the way it used to be, every type of sign.
From the plain to the very fancy gold leaf on glass.
No vinyl.
