I have some engine turned vinyl that I put on PVC material and it is peeling up after less than a month. Do any of you have an idea why this might have happened and can you offer any ideas for fixing the problem?

Would 3M edge sealer hold?

thanks in advance for all of your vast knowledge and ideas.

Is it on a vehicle that gets pressure washed?

No Si, it's on PVC (Sintra) material that is installed inside.

On the surface, I don't see an obvious cause for failure, but:
Is the vinyl old?
Did you wipe the PVC down with a prep/cleaner really well?

I'd not use the edge sealer, until some more feedback is offered. It may or may not work.

PVC is contaminated.
Use a new piece, clean it with "BonAmi".
Get it at the grocery store.
Or you can use Bar "Keepers Friend"
Rinse with really clean water...

If this vinyl is like more like a nonstretchy mylar...it may be the pvc expanding causing the vinyl to come loose?

I cleaned the PVC real well and gave it a final wipe down with alcohol. the vinyl is not that old and is more of a mylar material. I did however laminate it but I don't really see how that would affect the adhesion. I'm going to try the edge sealer and hope for the best!

The best products I ever found for prepping sintra or any other surface were Rapid Prep and Rapid Tac...Yep they cost more than dishwashing detergent and a bottle of alcohol but they worked.

Alcohol, like lacquer thinner, flashes off too fast to really do a good job of doing a "final" cleaning.

You need something that stays "wet" for a little while until you wipe it off with a brand new clean towel (Paper or cloth) that has not been used for anything before.

Sintra and other PVC surfaces are some of the toughest to get vinyl to stick to.

some of that gold mylar stuff isn't fit for sticking. I had the same failure issues on a sprint car some years ago. I prefer the oracal gold and silver imitation hammered leaf products. I have had that stuff outdoors for YEARS and it lasts awesomely.

Dan, after hours and hours of contemplating [Rolling On The Floor] [I Don t Know] [Rolling On The Floor] [I Don t Know] I'm tending to agree with Tony.

The PVC does move a lot. With the mylar being quite stable, it could at least contribute to your problems.
