I've long advocated selling much more than what most sign shops consider a sign. We do it on our theme park projects and also in our 'real world' signs. In doing so we manage to sell our work for many times the value of the sign face alone. We deal with far fewer clients each year but the ones we get are well worth the effort. We also make memorable signs in the process.

I posted some western theme sign concepts a couple of days ago. All the signs are part of larger projects. The top one, the gold rush sign, will look like this when its done. It's truly over the top and VERY fun to do!

The sign face will be routed from 30 lb Precision Board, layered and with prismatic letters. Golf leaf of course. [Smile]

This project started last Thursday morning when I drew a few quick sketches in my book as my client and I travelled by plane somewhere between Orlando and Denver. He watched me scribble the quick sketches including the 'sign', the water tower and the ore car and bought the whole concept on the spot.

 -

The water tower will be sculpted using fiberglass reinforced concrete over a welded steel structural frame. It will dump water into the sluice box where kids will get to try their hand at gold panning.

 -

The mine car frame is already fabbed out (about four hours work so far using bits and pieces from my bone yard) and ready for mesh and then sculpting - then paint. This is FUN stuff!

 -

Now multiply this small part of the project by 50 and you get the idea of how cool this whole project is going to be. Seven more months of construction to go!

That's going to be awesome...doing stuff like that has to make it enjoyable to go to work each day.
