Ever been in a store where they displayed a customer's bounced check for the public to see? There is a sign in my office which, after six weeks and four notices, I am sorely tempted to place it as a prominent showroom display as a deterrent, for others, and a reminder, for me, not to let a customer leave their sign promising to pay later. Yeah...I know...deposit. deposit. Sometimes I slip up.

But it takes space away from displaying and selling signs.

That'd be like a woman displaying pictures of her last boyfriends on the back sde of her front door. Might show a discontinted person. Someone who likes revenge, I wouldn't do it. It might even show a weakness. I have an double bit axe in my shop.I like to jokinly tell people it's used on people who write bad checks.

They used to print bad checks in the newspaper here. I think it was after the person was contacted & didn't pay up & it ended up going to the magistrate. A lot of people have said they wished they still did that, myself included.
Wayne, if that's what it takes to learn from your mistake, by all means do it. Make sure you keep a picture of it & post it somewhere you can see it so if he ever does pick it up, you still have a visual reminder of your lesson if you feel like letting someone slide again. After discussing 3 different jobs with a friend & each time, him reminding me I have an Edge, I wrote on a stickee "You have an edge. Why don't you just print it?" It's on my bulletin board right behind my monitor where I see it all the time.

Thanks to many state and federal laws, it's now illegal to try to "shame" a deadbeat into paying their debts. And, unfortunately, the penalties for violating the law, at the federal level can be quite stiff... http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpa/fdcpact.shtm

i would think........IF DISPLAYED, that this being in view all the time is more for YOURE remembrance of ONE OF YOURE MISTAKES.... most people wont even look at it. if i had a picture of all my mistakes and put em on a wall...........MOST OTHER PEOPLE wouldnt even notice them......i think you need to let youre Christian beliefs handle this......LET IT GO GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF IT. or you can always say KARMA WILL PREVAIL))))))

Wayne, if you see your sign, would or could you take it back ?

Actually, my intent was to first tell the customer her sign was about to be displayed...hoping she would be prompted to come on in, get it, and pay. Old Paint's advice is best.
