I was just thinking that I can't remember the last time I was caught up, as in had every single job on my slate completed. I imagine I have to credit some of that to poor management and procrastination, but I don't think there has been a time in the last 20 years that I didn't have at least a couple of jobs still ahead of me. I really thought I was going to get to that point this fall and was looking so forward to having a stretch of time where I could work on the building and revamp my webpage, but just as I was closing in on the last few projects the phone started ringing and I have a long list built up again.
I realize that some of you are trying to survive in tough economic times, and that lots of you have staff and likely have a much more organized work flow, but do you normally get that slate cleared on a regular basis?

march 2004 comes to mind and maybe sometime in 2008 when the shyt hit the fan. Will I be caught up anytime soon...hell no! lol I even took the decals off my truck doors...kept the hood and tailgate lettered though.

We always have stuff on the go. It's been a long long time since we've had to do "busy" work. There are only 4 of us now, so we all have lots to do. October is going to be a very good month. We sub out most of our installs and digital printing now so that helps. We are narrowing our focus again, getting rid of the bucket truck,letting subcontractors do that work. The economy is good here, so good help can be a challenge to find. We often have to refer work to other shops. We do mostly wholesale work now. Providing dimensional lettering and wayfinding systems to other sign companies. I like it that way, as we don't have to do the selling and installing.

Well when you spend too much time on the river it's easy to get behind...I've just walked in the door straight from the river...I'm sitting here in in wet socks and underwear as I type...although these pictures are from an earlier trip this summer...they are from the same 4 hour stretch of the river we took today except this time the leaves had turned colors...unluckily I forgot the camera...it was quite beautiful...got lucky though and ran into a couple of river otters...they played around me a bit then went on shore and from some hidden location began to bark at me...now I've got to get to work...by the way...the clear plastic container you see mounted to top of my kayak is an easy access water tight container for the camera...we had about 6 turn overs between the 5 of us today.

Since retiring 5 years ago, we have never been "caught up"!
There is always something that needs to be done. The secret is to never get to the point where there is nothing left to look forward to doing.
I have a list of about 5 things that need doing tomorrow. I'll probably get 3 or 4 of them done, then I'll have some left over to look forward to the next day!

My brother in law and I backpacked the Buffalo River Trail last year. We'd planned on hiking forty miles of it this month but had to cancel the trip at the last minute. Bummer!

As far as work related, I got a few a,,meatballs in the pot. I've been working on my own sign. Yes, my very own sign for my shop building. The shop was built in 2007. I finally have time to put a sign out where the public (strangers) can see it while speeding by. For home related, I'm never done.

I'm just finishing the last of my jobs before starting on a show in a few weeks. One small job left,and then I think I'll do a few paintings for myself. Hopefully my wife doesn't find out and make me do the things around the house I've been claiming to be far to busy to do. Oh well...off to shovel the walks.

The past couple of weeks have been great. No work in the last 2 weeks. Very rare, but nice. Been knocking out my punch list for the yardwork. Dropped the mower deck on my tractor and the kids and I created our own haunted trail for a hay ride for the neighborhood kids this weekend. Time well spent.
