A customer told me that she needed to replace her 2'x4' single faced unlighted can and pan face to conform to the new corporate specs and logo. Corporate requires her to buy from their vender. This vender wants $11,000. I told her I could change the sign over for a couple hundred bucks and make out fine.

Just another fine example why America is going broke. I guess hats off to the vender who is screwing company. Oh well, some of us still sleep good at night.

I've done some sub contract work for a national franchise that has the contract supplying all the signage for a franchised investment firm. They don't have difficulty paying my retail price and marking it up enough to make good. I understand the intent for consistency, but I wouldn't ever shop that way.

I'm sure State Farm isn't that free with their own money when it comes to paying claims...

Probly some State Farm Exec getting a kickback for every job the chosen vendor does.

$11,000 or $1,000 think someone has misquoted
I can not even understand $11,000 for a 2 ft X4 ft pan face only.
Yes she should insure it then file a claim bet the price does changes fast & no were near that quote since she will have to get 3 quotes lowest is payed lol.

Rick
Back in February or March, I Made up 2 acrylic faces ( 2' x 10' ) and it was not done for $ 11,000 but off the top of my feeble brain I forget what I charged, but it was done by me and not an outside vendor.
Dopey looking logo change in my opinion!

The misquoted possibility brings up a story... as always.
Back in the day when fax machines were the highest form of technology, I sent a quote to a customer and got back a call: "Eight thousand dollars! How on earth could that sign be eight thousand dollars?"
The sign was three thousand dollars, however, the serif typeface I used for the quote "filled in" when faxed and the three morphed into an eight. Henceforth, I used a san serif typeface to send faxes.

State Farm is not requiring anyone to buy from a vendor. We are doing two faces for a State Farm agency right now.
Tom, what makes the logo look "dopey" to you? Personally, I think it is clean and contemporary.

I made a sign of wood in a shaped form and painted with State Farm and they were an independent agent. I think back in 1998 I charged about $250 but it should have been more, it only took about a half a day though and all of it was hand painted except their logo they supplied a vinyl decal. It was about 3 ft. by 36 inches

I will pursue this further. The SF lady said eleven grand. I questioned that. They want to send a new can and face, probably with all the lighting even though she can't use the lights. Seems rediculous to me.

Don't try making any sense out of it Rick.
Common sense doesn't work in big business today.
It's why so many are in trouble.....they're trying to run their business, like our government runs.........horribly, and too involved.

anyone have the spec sheet for the layout and fonts they require?

Wayne, just the first two there are the current logo. The major change was taking the words out of the ovals.

Never trust a logo from BOTW for a branding changeover.

WOW! That's mind bending. At least I know I'm not the only one challenged these days...
All of my customers have no money; actually they all do, but nobody is spending. I've even lost some long time customers, including my DENTIST for 8 yrs, after a LOT of hard work, to the almighty buck. That was one of several. I almost threw in the towel here but I tried several jobs over the last few years and I just can't get the sign shop out of my blood. haha.
Maybe a sickness. haha.
Focusing on keeping up with the times and working with several local colleagues.
Hope to meet some people at the A/C sign show this year to fuel this fire.
Good luck with State Farm.

Pat brings up a good point. I've noticed BOTW's logos are often out of date. If I can't get what I need from corporate, I'll download all the iterations and compare with a screen grab off the company's website. Sometimes the updates are only minor tweaks. If I still can't get it, I go back to badgering corporate, which is somewhat akin to herding cats.
