Morning all you sign people. I have a problem and wonder if any of you have had this same problem and how i can correct it. i have a Gerber Dimension 200X computerized Router which i have had for many years, and it has always run excellent. It has been setting for some time now and recently i decided that if i can't sell it or trade it I may as well use it and so I fired it up.
The problem i am having is when i skew it all the way to the front to get it initialized that it will stop about 1.5" from the front. It seems to be sticking somewhere but i have cleaned the main screw which runs the router back and forth with solvents/oils and clean cloths, and just did eveything i can think of to it but it will still stick.
I can get it to go all the way to the front and it will initialize itself but i have to keep pushing the forward button to do this and when it does the initialization it is working hard. If it sticks and i do push the front button a few time and then hit the back button, it is also stickimng and so i have to keep pushing it until the screw gets past that pint and then am off.
Sure would like to get an idea what I can do to solve the problem, if nothing else i can take that screw all the way off and clean it good, but do not want to do that if i am missing something else. All wires from it are loose enough and nothing I can see is hanging it up.
Do not want to talk to Gerber as it costs more time to get them to talk to you and also the machine is too old for them to bother with.
Anybody got an idea it would be appreciated. I still want to sell/trade this machine but not until i get it back into 100% working order.

Sounds like your Ball Screw may be Slightly out of alignment. As you get close to the end it is starting to pinch itself between your endcap bearing and your carriage. When you back it out there is enough play to let the carriage run freely.
See if there is a way to adjust your screw slightly to relieve the pressure or try just loosening the screw end a little then run the carriage to the end then tighten back down.

First of all you should not put any solvents, oils or anything on the screw. That screw is teflon coated and should be treated carefully. If you feel it is necessary to clean it, I believe only isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth is the only recommended procedure to use. That being said, you should inspect it to see if any of the teflon coating has worn off and perhaps use some compressed air to be sure nothing is jamming it. There is also a guard in the rear of the screw that could cause problems like you are having. That guard can be safely removed as it is an unnecessary part. Have you checked the stop switch? I'm not sure of the proper name for the part but it is the metal piece on the front right corner or the table that contacts the gantry as it comes forward and stops it. This could also be a problem with the motor for that axis or many other things. What temperature are you trying to operate the router in? They will not work properly if they aren't at least 60 degrees.
