I've been asked to update, improve on the business card design for my bosses' other business. The top image is their old card and the bottom is what I've done so far. I like my layout, but have been around long enough to know any layout can be improved upon.
A column is mandatory, has to be in it.
The business is screen printed matboards. The boss likes the gold foil, and that's what the outer gold outline is on my version.

I'm out of practice on the picture loading thing.

Plus, that middle matboard is maroon. An average between the top and bottom ones. Something went wrong in the export to jpg to make it gray.

Your layout, as usual, is outstanding. Being formerly in the picture framing business, it has definite appeal to that industry. The only thing I don't like is the orange outlines, but that's just me. I've never been a fan of orange as outlines. I think you have a winner there Don. Oh, one other thing, see what adding a bit more space between the bullets in the address and phone number. Looks a bit tight to me.

Other than I am not a fan of using parentheses in phone numbers, which is obviously just a personal preference...I don’t see where you could improve on your design...I think you nailed it.
It reads well.

I agree with Dave on more space around the bullets. I'd also like to see the column a touch off-white. Right now the column is the first thing I see.

Don, I like it just as it is, understanding that that orange will actually be foiled gold.
I also think an added kick to the design would be if you made the now grey frame (and yes, I know supposed to be a mid-maroon. ) ... to make that frame foiled gold too. Just a thought. May give a little more gold punch to the mix.

Looks great as is...but the small changes suggested by Don and Dave I would try...I think you might like it even more.

Great work Don!

I like Nettie's idea - as long as you're springing for the foil, let 'er rip.....

Thanks for the input. Just like the good ol days!
Yesterday, I had one of those happy accidents artist have on good days. The boss wanted to get patterns on the "matboard" design behind the column. (The company makes specialty screenprinted matboards.) So, I took a sample of their matboard screenprint designs off of the website and was putting it behind the design to make a mask...and saw something cool happen.
This was low rez for the website, but he's bringing in a few of his favorite matboard patterns for me to scan. The "orange/yellow" just depicts bright gold foil, so the "matboard design corp" should pop on the finish card.
The online roundtable critiques are my favorite thing that happens in Letterville. Thanks to all who jumped in on this one!

Perfect. I love the background, and sorry I missed the part about the orange being gold foil. That is going to be one outstanding business card.
