I have to cover all windows and doors ( glass ) of an Apple store with 48" wide black vinyl strips. 35' wide store front.
It is for a 3 day remodeling project.
Any tips on applying the vertical 48" x 106" strips. ( they specify no bubbles or wrinkles )
I do have Rapid tac 2 on hand.
Thanks in advance for any great tips!

Pass on this one, unless you get them to sign an agreement that doing this is entirely at their risk.
Black attracts heat, and if you've ever sat in a black vinyl seat that's been exposed to the direct sun, you'll have experienced that fact. When you place black on one side of any glass, it will heat up that side, and create an expansion situation where that side will expand more than the unmarked surface. This uneven expansion may very well cause their windows to break, and I'm sure that you don't want to be the guy held responsible.
Hope this helps you decide.

Did that once!!!
Painted a 12" black border across the top a store front window. Was going to letter the next afternoon when the sun went down.
Well, when the sun came up ...... CRACK!
Glass company said the black paint caused the glass to expand and the retainers for the glass were didn't give!
They had to replace a 73" x 110" Plate glas window!

use newsprint....tape it in place.... you can get free end rolls from a newspaper print shop

A friend of our runs a glass shop and he said NEVER cover a window entirely in ANY color as it voids the warranty on the glass. We also had a glass crack when we put a red skirt about 2 foot high on the bottom of a window. We were never sure it was totally the vinyl's fault but the owner said there was a noticable change in temperature next to the window that was covered. Who knows... IF you do decide to do it, make sure you have them sign off on it and state you are NOT responsible if they have problems.

Weve blacked out bus windows for years with vinyl. In southern california heat, never had a problem.

I ve busted windows down here I would use black paper from a shool supply store, why go thru the trouble of getting vinyl off

Bus windows are way different than 48" x 106" store front windows.

Black will crack the windows! No way around it. Anytime I have to potline a box on any glass, I try to use ultra blue with better results. You are asking for major trouble.

I painted the inside surface of a storefront window dark blue a few years ago - it cracked the NEXT DAY - heed our words, Tom......

Could you suggest to them black coroplast and some tabs of double sided tape in the corners?
Easy install. Easy removal.

It would be a lot nicer environmentally (and probably less expensive) if they would use rolls of black PAPER of CLOTH, that could be reused over and over. Instead of vinyl, which will only be used once, then pulled off and tossed in a landfill.

I blocked out a window in my tool shop at the back of my garage with dark blue corplas. Window was a double pane 36x60. I set the corplas a half inch away from the inside of the glass. It shattered the glass in a week. Only had about an hour of direct sun each day.

Thanks folks...
This Apple deal is very specific, they supply the vinyl they want and specify no bubbles or wrinkles!
I did in fact have the general contractor sign a release freeing me of any responsibility if the window cracks or shatters.
This does face north which might help. Years ago I painted a window black after warning the customer that it could crack, and it did of course.
Yours suggestions of a cheaper easier method make sense to me, but they are pretty nuts in specifiying this method. They do it this way in all their stores.
Pretty elaborate for covering windows for 3 days.
Thanks for all your input!

Uh oh... they're releasing the iCrack!
Every plumber in the world will want one.

I would say Tom that job is very manageable once you have one or maybe two helpers and a wet application. Once they supply the vinyl, your'e in a no lose situation. Wouldn't be a job I'd fancy. Being a bit of a lover of Apple stuff, I'd probably spend weeks on that three day project not o mention the contents of my credit card

sounds a little over the top to me. but what ever they require
