It's good to see they will continue to make thermal machines, software, and materials.

I have been a big supporter of Gerber products, and they have made a lot us a lot of money over the years. I hope they continue to restructure and come back strong.

It's too bad they couldn't come up with an inkjet for the small shops.

Confirms what imhave thought for many years. The market for flatbed printers is tiny. A good one is colossal money and out of the range of most sign shops. Printing to a roll and laminating is still the way to go and the equipment costs only a fraction of a flatbed

Nikki,

There was no mention of plotters in the article either but I can't see how they would walk away from that market.

Only Inkjet - Kevin hit it on the head, the market is too small and if you can not sell "X number" then it's not worth it. I would also correct "financial troubles" to "Inkjet market too small"

Cutters, Edge and Routers(Sabre) stay

Thanks Tony, that's a relief. I've been a long term Gerber fan.

Ditto.

I'm glad to see Gerber repositioning itself. Given how much and how frequently the market evolves, I think most companies have to do it in order to stay viable.

Ditto. Big Gerber fan here. I think we've all had to readjustment or reposition ourselves lately. Thanks Tony.

[Cool]

Tony, how true. I spent yesterday at sign uk, my first visit in five years. Last time I was there, the punters were all crowding around the various flatbed printers, the reps on the stands hardly had time to talk to anyone. This year, still a fair supply of these printers and a few new ones. Difference, hardly anyone gave them a second glance. Thing is, the sign people who ultimately have to make these things pay, have done their sums and realised that between paying huge leases, high consumable costs and production in most cases at the pace of a snail, they are a non runner.
