I get several calls a week....."Hello this is "AT&T" or something from Yellow pages......and we just want to verify your imformation!
This goes on and on every week. What are they doing? How do you get them to stop calling?
I tell them to stop calling.

they are putting you on call lists that the sell. They call to confirm the info they have and then sell it as a premium "confirmed" contact.

I shouldn't even admit that I do this - but when I see a number that is not familiar (they often originate in the states so we can almost recognize the call as a telemarketer) - I answer the phone like some old european grandmother, and I say, "Yaaaahhh" with a high pitched, loud, annoying voice - when they ask for one of us, I say "She/He died, you no call again!!" (still in that voice) in the rudest, loudest manner I can. And do you know the number of telemarketer calls has dropped off by about 90%! I'm pretty happy about that! It's workin' for me!

Ask them for their phone number and tell you will
call them back. Then say if I can't call you I can't
trust you...

I've adopted the practice of answering the phone with a sort of unidentifiable grunt that cd be anything. Then, if the caller sounds respectable, I revert to my normal highly civilized telephone manner. If not, I try to imitate a Cantonese accent, a particularly annoying language which you hear a lot of in San Francisco, usually spoken in a loud voice. It's a hard one to impersonate, tho, and I'm still working on it.

Caller ID, junk calls I just let ring & ring till the answering machine picks up. I figure that wastes enuf of their time so 3 or 4 people down the line won't be bothered. I dont think the donotcall list works for businesses
