I have Windows 7 pro 64bit...

I open CorelDraw X4 and type a word out... then I click the drop-down font list so that I can toggle through the fonts to quickly see how the text I typed will look in any font that I toggle through - - - except it's not showing me the text in the particular fonts that I'm toggling through.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Figured it out... by default, under Customization/Workspace/Text/Fonts.... the box that reads 'Show flyout with font sample beside font list' is UN-checked. Once I 'checked' this box, it previewed my font selection.

Thanks for checking in on this thread anyway. :-) Have a great day.

I X3 in under "tools-options-text-fonts-show font sample in flyout"
I have that box checked and the one below it which is "show flyout with available font styles beside font list"

Hope this helps.

I use a free downloadable program called "The Font Thing" it is basically a font preview window where you can type in your wording, preselect the type of font you are looking for: i.e. serif, sans serif, script, etc. and adjust size. I like this because I can preview 8-10 fonts at one time. I ususally start in corel but it takes soooo long to preview all the fonts by scrolling down. This way I type out the text I want in Corel then open FontThing and go back and forth between windows. This way I make a few copies of various fonts in corel and can then make a design decision.

Thanks Tony - that's pretty much the same format for X4 - Got it! :-)

Jeff - I'll have to check that out. I wish Adobe would come up out of the basement and integrate a font preview in Illustrator like Corel has had for the last 15 years! Thanks :-)

The Font Thing is a great program, but it doesn't work in the new 64bit systems.
Bummer! Been using it for years.

Todd,
The Font preview DOES work in Adobe Illustrator.
Select your copy, and go to the Type toolbar at the top of your page.
Click on the Arrow next to the font name, and it will highlight the current font.
While highlighted, just Scroll up and down to see your copy in the different fonts.

It may be a setting you need to have checked...
At the very top toolbar, Choose: Window/Type then the small arrow, then check "Character".

Or it may be under Edit/Preferences/Type...
