Happy Birthday my friend. Enjoy your day. Platz and Coke sounds like a good treat.

Happy b'day Dan!
I have to ask this- plenty of people here derive some inspiration from your great & creative work- but from where do you get your inspirations?
(edited because a sticky keyboard added some typos!)

Sending you Happy Birthday wishes...have a great one.
Posted by Dan Sawatzky (Member # 88) on :
Thank you all. I'm a lucky guy to have it all. Friends and family both near and far.
I expected to wake up to a snowfall - but it is a prefect Yarrow winter day - gray and rainy with the snow line about 1000 feet higher on the mountain out my window.
As I work at my desk the router is singing in the back room. We'll be working on the bull's head sculpture today and I suspect there will be roast beef and fresh chocolate cake with way too many candles on it tonight. Phoebe will undoubtedly be singing the birthday song the loudest. It doesn't get better than that.
Thanks for the birthday wishes.

How do you say..."HAVE A GREAT DAY"...to a guy who thinks everyday is his birthday.
Posted by Si Allen (Member # 420) on :
Happy Birthday Dan ... but ya gotta stop having them or this will happen :
Posted by Dan Sawatzky (Member # 88) on :
It's OK Si... I'm not that old. I am now in my late 40's. You know how when someone dies you refer to them as the 'late so and so'? Well... I now admit to being in my 'late' 40's.
When we put up a sign like that in Yarrow it will be highly dimensional and gilded too.

What the hell is platz?
Happy belated birthday, my friend . . . I hope someone challenged you at something to make your day complete!!
Posted by Donna in BC (Member # 130) on :
Platz is a mennonite fruit cake made homemade in our own hometown little deli. The best in the land.

Happy belated Birthday Dan! Looking forward to another walldog event this summer. Hope to see you there!
Sign-cerely, Steve

Platz. I had heard about all this great, wonderful stuff and couldn't wait to try it out.
Dan took a bunch of us down to the deli (only about half a block - they have LONG blocks in Canada) and we had a piece (slice?, plate full?, cup?...however they measure it) and I was ready for the explosion of flavor and the whoops and hollers.
Well...it was OK, but I guess it's "different strokes for different folks". Sorry, Dan, but I'll stick with Jeanne's fruit cobblers.
Actually, I think Dan gets a kick-back from the deli. And they talk funny, too.

Just a suggestion . . . and thanks, Ray for the setup, the next time someone from the bakery names a supposed-delicious dessert treat, my marketing brain says they might consider something more appealing than the sound it makes when it hits the floor . . .
I'm just sayin' . . .
I may well get a chance to judge for myself at some point soon, until then . . . impartiality for me.
Canad-eh . . . it's a good thing they're all so sweet and nice up there cuz things like this make my eyebrows go up . . .
Posted by Dan Sawatzky (Member # 88) on :
Jay and I have held to a shaky truce since last summer... and now here he is insulting my favorite desert and Canadians in general... and in my birthday post yet...
Maybe it's time for another CHALLENGE.... Jay never has done better than second place to date...
You goin' to Plymouth in June? Bring it on Jay...

Definitely a year older Dave.... and hopefully a little wiser... but I have FAR to go in the wise department. Just ask Janis or Bec or Phoebe or anyone that hangs around our shop...

Happy belated Birthday my friend!
I'm sure it was wonderful! :-)

Whoa, wait a minute Sawatzk-eh . . .!!!!
Re-read my post:
<I may well get a chance to judge for myself at some point soon, until then . . . impartiality for me.
Canad-eh . . . it's a good thing they're all so sweet and nice up there cuz things like this make my eyebrows go up . . .>
Regarding the insult to your fave dessert: "until then, impartiality for me."
Pretty sure that isn't an insult, ya' fight picker . . . I'll judge for myself, now . . .
And then:
"Canad-eh . . . it's a good thing they're all so sweet and nice up there... "
Just how is that insulting to Canad-eh?
Always picking a fight . . . And WHAT shaky truce? There wasn't one to begin with . . . because YOU'D never allow that.
Sigh . . . Yes, Dan, I will be in Plymouth, WI in June . . . I am helping Ray Guzman - and I'm roaming to all walls that may need help. I chose to be a worker-bee instead of a project leader.
That said, we are raising money for breast cancer awareness while we're there - and we will be working with local advocates to come up with some nifty things for sale or donation. Keep your eyes peeled for what we'll be doing . . .
But I did NOT bash Canad-eh OR Splatz . . . you troublemaker . . .
The 'fight' is on . . . first volleys fired . . .

Yes, ahem, well back to the thread.
Happy Late Birthday Dan. May there be many more years with Pheobe and all your loved ones, showing us all how you tick and spending the time to write it all down to inspire us.
