Back in early May I developed some medical problems and on top of that had some financial set backs not anticipated. As a result I was unable to do a lot of things and only recently back to doing some small projects for friends and family - trying to get back into glass etching for Christmas orders.
I use a PC WinXP, Roland plotter, Corel Draw 12 LexMark printer/scanner. I do most if not all of my work in Corel Draw 12. I am on Comcast for internet.
Here’s the problem. I have tried multiple times to download files from various graphic sites. I.E. Brands of the World for a small project. I have found the graphics I am looking for, but when I download the files (EPS) into CDR, I get a grey box identifying the artwork and indicating the software that was used to upload the graphic. These are all sites I’ve used many times over the years. I find myself unable to upload a workable file for cutting or modifying. I can download a file, but unable to import as a different type.
My son tried to help me earlier, but also ran into the same problem. Unknown if he changed anything within the hard drive, but he uses AutoCad where he works as a landscape architect. He has worked with me since he was 10 years old but not recently.
Files previous download from these sites open fine.
Can anyone walk me through correcting this problem?
I have a Church Fall Craft Show that I’ve done in the past and had hoped to display some of my glassware and other items in November. Since 911, I don’t get many Christmas orders until Thanksgiving. I’ve even offered discounts for early orders. One customer that use to early order in Jan. - Feb. now waits until mid to late Nov.
OK, back to the problem. Either I’ve forgotten something, or something has changed. 5 months not actively doing glass etching, I think I’ve forgotten something. I know I suffer from CRS. Can’t Remember Stuff!
Any advice and/or assistance is appreciated,
Steve

Steve...From past conversations and stuff, I know that you know all the settings to use to import EPS files into CorelDraw.
It sounds like you might have to un-install CorelDraw12 correctly and then do a re-install and then download and install all of the service packs.
We know each other and you have been doing this for many years with no problem. Give the re-install a shot.

Steve when you import these files into corel draw you need to click on the dropdown menu for file type and choose postscript interpreted instead of eps,..the grey box you get is interpreted as a bitmap placed inside an encapsulated postscript file, where as what you want is the actual vectors corel is discriminatory in this fashion so you have to choose postscript interpreted to get the vector file,...hope this helps ya!

Thanks Dave,
I just Removed and Reloaded CDR12 as well all the patches. SAME Problem! The grey box!
And Tim I am unable to click on the dropdown menu and change file type to postscrip interpreted. Dave indicated same thing a few days ago, but I can not get to the menu???????????
Dave what you sent me after you got the grey box - please walk me thru the process!
Chad and I both are at blank wall. Been this way for quite some time and have tried so much and are so frustrated at this point.
Thanks for your assistance,
Steve

Steve, try file/import/PS,EPS,PRN
That should solve the problem.

Steve if you do a custom install of coreldraw it will give you the options of which vector type import filters you can install. Be sure to check all the vector import filters when you do the install,..it may not be necessary to totally uninstall and reinstall corel just check the custom install and you can install the filters after the normal install. Once the filters are there you should be able to use them. open a new file then click the file menu and select the import option, once that window is open click on the filetype dropdown menu and select postscript interpreted and it should work.I've seen people try to just double click on a file and get corel to open them and it won't work but if you use the import option after you have a blank file open it will,if corel is installed properly

I run X3, but in the "Import" "EPS" make sure you import as "import as editable" rather than "import as encapsulated post script".
