My 13 yr old IOLINE CLASSIC is acting up.....mechanically it runs fine but the cutting quality is driving me nuts......... It cuts half the job too deep the other too light..... Ive tried with new blades still the same problem. It also seems that certain parts of a letter thats being cut doesnt seem to meet at the ends if that makes sense.........doesnt complete the cut.......
Cutting heat applied vinyl ( for tees ) is IMPOSSIBLE............ can not cut with out crinklig the media....if I ease up on the pressure it doesnt cut thru............
They tell me to replace the blade holder....... I guess what I looking for is someone to say JUNK the cutter and get new...or have an easy fix for me.............. Thanks Rich

also check the wear strip. It must be flat.

The first symptom of uncompleted cuts is often a blade offset being set wrong. the second symptom may be the transom bars the knife holder rides on. if crude causes the knife carriage to raise up and down as it goes from one end to the other the result is an uneven cut caused by debris on the wheels that follow that bar it rides on and or the rods it rides on may be bent depending on the model of cutter.

Hi Rich, Try replacing the teflon cutting strip under the cutting area. If it is chewed up it will cause the symptoms you are mentioning. I had the same problems with my Roland a few years back and that fixed it like new.

Rather than debate the symptoms here you can download a service manual here Rich. You might also want to go and download the control center program ioline has to change the settings that that cutter uses here. Alot of the problems I have seen have been settings that got changed here.I have repaired at least two of these cutters and the problems you describe could be a bent transom rod and or the knife settings are wrong. the platen strip(the strip under the knife blade) might need replacing also. they are very well built cutters and there isn't alot that can go wrong with them if they are taken good care of. I have had to take a brass toothbrush and clean the grit wheels and reset the control panel settings.But other than tightening the belt that controls the knife carriage there isn't alot that can go mechanically wrong with them other than the usual wear and tear. I would check the belt that moves the knife carriage to make sure it hasn't stretched and needs tightening and check the traverse rods the knife assembly rides on to make sure they are not bent. If they are they can be rotated till the knife carriage rides on them evenly to make sure the blade holder stays at an even distance from the cutting strip. If you read the service manual it is fairly straight forward as to any problems you might have and the way to fix them in plain english not some techy geek talk.Hope this helps ya,...

Couple of things to point out.... It's called a classic. So are most songs and some cars I like. I don't mind the songs being used, but I think classic cars shouldn't be driven daily. Keep the classic in the garage as a second vehicle and get something new for daily driving.
13 years. Putting the age into perspective... There was a kid in kindergarten when it was built who's now a high school graduate. The Ford mustang has had three different body styles since then. That's a long as the warranty on a perfectly installed SignGold job. Bill Clinton was in office with a teenage daughter...who is now married.
Might be time to get something newer and keep the IOLINE as a backup. Rapid

Hi Rich I had problems with lines not finnishing and jagged edges. I was starting to order parts when my supplier suggested taking the blade out of it,s holder and sprayng the inside with wd40 and then blowing it out. Worked like a charm. Cheers

That will do it. I've had to replace mine twice. My Ioline Classic is 15 years old. I used it today and it worked like new. If the wear strip is worn out, peel it up, clean the area with rubbing alcohol, then apply a piece of scotch tape until you can buy the right strip. It should work fine.
